Lamellophone vs. Lamellaphone

[edit]

I am not quite sure which of these forms is more common. In the musicologist literature I find Lamellophone, on some websites it is Lamellaphone. My guess is Lamellophone is correct, but this has to be verified. The two pages (this one and the redirect pge Lamellophone) might have to be exchanged.

I have exchanged the pages now, with the help of an administrator.Nannus 11:34, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re mbila

[edit]

Mbila was an inappropriate addition here. Mbila is a relative of the xylophone, and it is struck with mallets. Dogru144 15:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As such, mbila is an idiophone. Dogru144 19:12, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that mbila in inappropriate in this article, but because it is not a /lamellophone/. Idiophones are defined by the vibrating sruface; not the method of playing. Xylophones and laemllophones are both idiophones. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.92.174.105 (talk) 23:17, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste move repaired

[edit]

I've tidied up a rather chaotic move attempt from "Lamellaphone" to "Lamellophone" made today by User:Nannus. The history of this talk page now contains entries from both old talk pages. Fut.Perf. 00:00, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I understand now that if you move a page, a redirect page with the old name is automatically created. Won't happen again :°) Nannus 11:32, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: List of Lamellophones

[edit]

Many of the items listed here are either variant spellings for the same instrument (sansu, sanzu, zanzu), or are simply regional variants of essentially the same instrument (Kaffir piano, kalimba, thumb piano, likimbe, sansa/sanza/zanza, etc. are all essentilly the mbira, and all their links redirect there already).

I suggest shortening the list to just those entries which refer to distinctly /different/ instruments (for example, array mbira, mbira, and marimbula are all different instruments), and grouping the alternate names with each instrument.

The result of this discussion was merge. Alan Islas (talk) 15:06, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge Electric lamellophone into Lamellophone. The electric lamellophone article has been a stub for several years, and I believe it can benefit from the added context. The proposed merge will make both articles better. Alan Islas (talk) 13:51, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merge. I agree that the two would be better together. Jacqke (talk) 15:51, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
