Release dates

[edit]

Is there a source for the PAL Nov 30 release date for PC? Additionally would there be any source for an accurate release for the PAL PlayStation game? As far as I know it may have been released with the PC game while the NTSC version was delayed (they're very different games for some reason), but I can't find any mention of that version at all, all sources only talk about the the NA one. --Jessietail (talk) 08:55, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We don't actually seem to have any sources regarding EU (or PAL) dates, so I removed the respective information unless we find such. Lordtobi () 09:38, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Seemingly, GameRankings keeps different dates to both versions than IGN does, and a lot of sources tend to agree in similar "summary"-style format: November 30, 1999 (PC) / July 30, 2000 (PS). If these are the EU dates, the latter would confirm your NTSC-delay claim. Lordtobi () 09:51, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was under the impression of the PAL game having been released way earlier than that - but like I said all I have to go off of is other people's personal reports of almost two decades ago. Also there were two citations you removed linking to au.gamespot, both dead links but I checked archive.org and they had the two dates you listed just now as possibly being the PAL releases - but they both said "(US)" next to them (example). Of course I don't know how much that means and the country of the site is probably a better indication of the accuracy of the dates, but well, I have no idea. Rock Raiders seems to sadly be the least offensive as far as poorly-recorded release dates for these old Lego games. --Jessietail (talk) 10:21, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I just realized who you are, so I guess you kinda know what I'm talking about already --Jessietail (talk) 10:22, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I do know what you are talking about, haha. Note though, that I didn't acutally remove the links, I fixed the dead links to its live targets, formerly redirects until the au.gamespot.com server was taken out of service, a common issue with old WP articles. Regarding the date itself, I don't think we should go off an Australian page for a date searched for in the EU, that claims to be in the US, etc., for that it is too tangeled, but then again, how do we what is actually correct? Furthermore, GameFAQs dates both MSWin releases to Nov 30, making both IGNs incorrect. Weird, huh? Lordtobi () 10:32, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

15 or 18 November?

[edit]

The game's release date was originally listed as 15 November, with a link to an IGN article giving this release date. However it has now been changed to 18 November according to a different article, while the PS release date still uses an IGN source. What makes this new source more accurate than the previous date? Also, the European release date has been changed to 3 November, which appears to be just as uncited as the old 30 November date that used to be listed here - is this in any of the other sources in the article? --Ringtail Raider (talk) 06:23, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The original date came not from an article but one of IGN's generic overview site. These are auto-generated from a database, so the project generally treats them as unreliable. I've been trying to find other sources but came up empty-handed. For now, I think removing unsourced dates is the best option. IceWelder [] 14:17, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any information about this database and where its dates come from? It's the first I've heard about it. As far as I can find, that date was still used in the older versions of their review from 2000, though there is one older archive than that that doesn't have it displayed. According to WP:VG/RS, IGN and GameSpy share a database. I cannot tell you where exactly the unreliability originated, since it is what I picked up in discussions with other editors, but I found their data to be incorrect on numerous occasions in the past. For Rock Raiders specifically, it claims Lego Media as a co-developer, for example. The news release is probably the best option we have right now unless we find a much better source. The archive of Lego Media's press releases unfortunately looks bust. IceWelder [] 12:44, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
