Only persons with wikipedia articles?

[edit]

Every letter has an embedded non-textual hatnote to add only names with their own wikipedia articles, but about 25% of the entire list is names without such articles. Furthermore, on disambiguation pages and other list pages, there are many names without articles. Names without articles may also appear in existing articles, where they may be preemptorally wikilinked (because they're names or terms we'd like to know about). The existance of such non-article links and names provides clues to editors that something remains to be done, or a needed article to be written. If there is a policy to not have non-article names in lists, I think it is counterproductive. I'm adding names here as I see fit (alternatively, ALL non-article names should be deleted from this and all other lists - I've had the displeasure of doing that, and having my deletion reverted within minutes by an administrator).Sbalfour (talk) 19:36, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All non-article names should be deleted from this and similar lists. WP:LISTPEOPLE specifically states that lists of people should include only notable entries, with notability equivalent to having a wikipedia article on the subject. For other, non-list articles, my understanding is that redlinked names can be included if they are of significant importance to the subject, though it is still good practice to provide a reliable source citation to establish their importance/relevance. If you take a look at the other list articles of writers and poets, you will find that almost all are now in line with WP:LISTPEOPLE.Dialectric (talk) 21:11, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
