To do

Fun fact - - this article is cited by the Florida Senate. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:21, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if that's good or bad. They copy and pasted the content without considering to look at the sources or to even verify the data they have. I know it's Florida as I also live in the state but...sigh. – The Grid (talk) 13:09, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nonfunctional references

This list has four nonworking references.[1] MacDaid (talk) 20:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I had a issue :)

[edit]

I have a better idea, it is twenty years from 2000 to 2020. But I have a curiosity, they may or may not move, such as: List of Florida hurricanes (2000–2020). It's because they were already enough for those articles and by 2021 due to the number of hurricanes they will be coming between the Q3 and Q4 2021. You choice; will, or not move this. --МОДОКАУ 04:21, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree with this. The other articles span 25 years and to maintain consistency it would be 2000–2024. However, we don't report on the future so that's why 2000–present is used. – The Grid (talk) 00:20, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree also. Mainly for the reason that The Grid says. Having the hurricanes since 2000 together is good for comparison.Dogru144 (talk) 15:36, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Number of deaths and Hurricane Ian

[edit]

As we add more deaths to the Ian death toll, we should be careful to make the tally to apply to deaths from the hurricane in Florida. So, we should be mindful that death tolls given in the media include deaths that occurred in the Carolinas. I know that four deaths occurred from the hurricane in North Carolina.[2] Dogru144 (talk) 15:43, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, a clear number of deaths from Ian probably won't happen for a few months. A footnote should at least note it's not final. – The Grid (talk) 15:54, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"The number of storm-related deaths rose to at least 101 on Thursday, eight days after the storm made landfall in southwest Florida. According to reports from the Florida Medical Examiners Commission, 98 of those deaths were in Florida. Five people were also killed in North Carolina, three in Cuba and one in Virginia." AP report, copied to a TV news site. https://www.kptv.com/2022/10/07/death-toll-hurricane-ian-reaches-triple-digits/ Dogru144 (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I added a source from CNN that confirms the 120 number. 125 total, 120 from Florida. (Also adding a much needed column for the table which should have been done a while ago.) – The Grid (talk) 15:46, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lede/leading images

[edit]

Since I have been reverted a few times already, the leading image on the article shouldn't automatically reflect the newest storm. There's already an image in the 2022 section and having Hurricane Michael is sufficient. The usage of the newest storms at the top reeks of WP:RECENTISM regardless of their intensity - do remember this article spans 25 years! There are a lot of valid storms to display in the lede. – The Grid (talk) 13:04, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ian has done more damage and deaths than Michael so if you’re going to remove a picture it should be Michael not Ian Italyoz484 (talk) 13:57, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're completely missing my point. – The Grid (talk) 14:05, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For a few years now the lead image on this page has been that of 2018 Hurricane Michael, the strongest hurricane to hit the state during the time period covered by the article. There should only one lead image, and that image should be of Michael, until / unless a stronger hurricane hits in this or one of the next two seasons. This article is for 2000-2024

[edit]

2025 season maybe go into another article, and after the 2024 season ends, maybe we could revive it to be a FL. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 14:52, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It’s a long term project of mine, getting this back to FL. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 16:38, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
25-year intervals is ok... Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 03:35, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I stated in a few topics above that 2000-2024 would be sufficient but best to wait until after the season ends. – The Grid (talk) 13:50, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If not until after 2025 ends. If we split this off, then there'll be nothing in the list for the 2025 list, which doesn't seem necessary. I'd rather wait until after the 2025 season, if not later, when there would be a reasonable amount of content in the new list. That being said, this list still needs more sourcing and stuff. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:50, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This page started in 2007, so there is no predecence here, and Wikipedia only exists from 2001, so no spliting directly from the 1975–present list. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 07:13, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricanes or tropical cyclones

[edit]

I noticed this page describes tropical cyclones in the lede while the other lists describe hurricanes. Did these lists ever have their focus changed at some point? – The Grid (talk) 13:16, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, they've always been called "List of [area] hurricanes", because the common name is Atlantic hurricane, as warned by the National Hurricane Center, during the hurricane season. Tropical storms and depressions, as well as subtropical cyclones and storms are included for completion purposes, but the vast majority of the damage came from hurricanes, and they represent the biggest threat, so the title, for convenience purposes, is "List of Florida hurricanes", not "List of Florida tropical and subtropical cyclones", which would be more accurate, but is much clunkier. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:44, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
