As much as I love this page, I think the organization into the different regions of Oz is confusing. I doubt that any reader looking for Kabumpo would expect to find him in Gillikin Country, with Peg Amy in Winkie Country and Snufferbux in Munchkin Country. I think the page would be more readable and useful if it were simply an alphabetical list, without splitting things into sections. What do others think? I agree that the regional search is not very helpful, and it seems to be out of line with other similar pages (see: List of Winnie-the-Pooh characters). I am not super well versed in the Oz world, so sorting by area wouldn't really make it intuitive for me, and likely many other readers.
I think we could do alphabetical for sure, but I would also suggest that it be sorted by which book characters were introduced in. Since there were so many authorized books written after Baum died, but before the series started to become public domain, in 1956, I think this makes sense. Please let me know what you think. I think that splitting up by book would be better than by country; it's at least possible that a reader would find what they're looking for. But I think the biggest "use case" for the page is a reader wanting to know, "What book did this character first appear in?" An alphabetical list with that "first appearance" info would be best suited for that reader. Toughpigs (talk) 17:32, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't take as long to resort as I thought it would, so that is done. There might be some more formatting I am missing, but that big first step is done. I also added a few more images of characters. Looking at the original Baum stories character list page it seems they are sorted by where in Oz people are from. Which seems to make sense for that page, but since these stories are not as well known this is a better way to do it. SDudley (talk) 21:56, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the work you’ve done on improving the page today! I’ll see if I can continue to find more information on the post-Baum books tomorrow evening as well as add some more images to this page. Night! SDudley (talk) 03:22, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
