Commons

[edit]

If someone feels like going through and looking for the images we've got, this would make a great category on the Commons. - Jmabel | Talk 01:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, definitely! I created Category:Registered Historic Places in Washington for them. This message brought to you by WP:NRHP. :) --Ebyabe 01:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I've now put what I can identify into that category. I've gone through Seattle; I haven't looked too much beyond that except for my own photos. - Jmabel | Talk 01:27, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fort Lawton

[edit]

There is a red-linked Fort Lawton, Washington listing West Point Light Station. I believe this is not a separate community, but is Fort Lawton in Seattle, which has a West Point Light Station. - Jmabel | Talk 01:27, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since no one has remarked otherwise in nearly a month, I am making this correction. - Jmabel | Talk 21:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images, etc.

[edit]

I've been photographing a lot of the places in Seattle (and a few beyond) and uploading images to the Commons. I've now got photos for at least 25 of the places in Seattle, and hope to get at least 90% of them (some are demolished, so those probably won't be possible). Once that's done, I'd like to reformat that section as a table with a small image (maybe 75px wide or 100px wide), and maybe the ID of each from the National Register. Is there any objection? I could also add (where relevant) a link to a Commons category; I'm open to other things. Any suggestions? - Jmabel | Talk 06:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking objection after a few days, I'm going to start on this. - Jmabel | Talk 08:25, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've stuck to just adding images, assuming that is the least controversial approach. If anyone thinks they can improve the layout, I'd be interested to see alternatives. I believe I've now more or less caught up with what has good images on the Commons, but I'm hard at work photographing. If anyone knows of "free" images (e.g. in Wikipedia but not on Commons) for the missing places, please add them. It would be nice if you would also bring the image over to Commons. - Jmabel | Talk 02:21, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ADVENTURESS

[edit]

The edits about the current home port of the ADVENTURESS were mine; I was not at my usual computer & didn't think log in. Got the information from someone at the Center for Wooden Boats. I've mentioned it both here and for Port Townsend. - Jmabel | Talk 21:13, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bridges in parks

[edit]

There are at least three bridges in parks listed here where we have an article on the park, but do not have a separate article on the bridge. I don't think we really need a separate article on the respective bridges: it can just be a section in the article on the park. If no one objects, I will make those link to the parks, and make sure that the bridges are each at least mentioned in the article on the respective park. - Jmabel | Talk 08:36, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seattle photos status

[edit]

As discussed above, I've been adding photos to the Seattle section of this list. Here's what's left to do:

14th Avenue South Bridge
Murderbike says he'll get this one done.
Adventuress
Now in Port Townsend
John B. Agen Property
No published address
Building No. 105, Boeing Airplane Company
Murderbike says he'll get this one done.
Duwamish Number 1 Site
A Native American archaeological dig, hence the near secrecy about location. It's also known as 45-KI-23. Here is a tidbit about it (and about its approximate location). There is apparently a relevant collection at the Burke Museum but it hasn't been digitized. This spreadsheet has some suggestive information. Article potential, anyone? There seem to be relevant academic papers to follow up, if someone feels like a proper library research project. I suspect that the Burke has materials that someone could get permission to photograph. Short of that, though, I don't see where we'll get a relevant image.
MV Vashon
Is this still on the Vashon run? (It would be pretty damned old.) If so, can someone take a picture?
She's a wreck up in Alaska now. 66.195.33.201 (talk) 03:42, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
DONE: MV Westward
"arguably the region's most famous classic motor yacht". Anyone know anything about where it might be moored?
DONE: Judge James T. Ronald House
The official sites all say 421 30th, but there seems to be no such house, nor is there a 421 30th E.
Walt Crowley (R.I.P.) in the National Trust Guide Seattle, Appendix C, p. 249 (which I accessed via a page on Google Books) says the Judge James T. Ronald House is 703 Eighth Avenue on First Hill. That's the Bishop Lewis House, a work release facility. Since the National Register says it is an 1889 single dwelling, ID #75001859, it's not likely to be this building, which doesn't look like it was ever a single dwelling; a bit of a mystery, so far.
I wrote Larry Kreisman of Historic Seattle; he says "The address you have sounds correct--I just drove by that house last weekend--it's a Classical Revival frame building with a columned two story porch. If you'd like, I can drive by sometime this week to check the address there--perhaps it's 423 or 425." I told him that given that he says it's there, I'll take his word, and I'll check next time I'm in Madrona (which I'll try to get to in the next week or so). -- Jmabel | Talk 03:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's 421 30th Avenue South. And the picture is now in the list. - Jmabel | Talk 04:52, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
SS San Mateo
apparently falling to bits up in Canada. Does anyone have an old picture we can scan?
Schooner Martha
I'm not sure where it's moored, probably not in Seattle.
Showboat Theater
Demolished. Does anyone have a photo?
(Old) Temple De Hirsch
I have a picture of the ruins; does anyone have an old photo of the building intact?
Tracy House
The address given is 18971 Edgecliff Dr SW, which is not in Seattle. It's in Normandy Park and it's a Frank Lloyd Wright house. - Jmabel | Talk 04:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wagner Houseboat
Presumably one of the houseboats on the dock at 2770 Westlake Ave. N.; I'm not sure I can identify which or find a place from which to take a photo. I imagine the "Wagner" is Dick Wagner of the Center for Wooden Boats. We can probably contact him and get permission to take a photo.
Zodiac
I believe it's now in Bellingham, though I think it winters in Seattle.

Also, for Commons (rather than for this article) there are a lot of buildings where we could use pictures of the interior, and we could definitely use a lot more of the Pioneer Square - Skid Row Historical District. And then, of course, there's all the stuff around the county outside of Seattle...

-- Jmabel | Talk 21:26, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Building No. 105 is done, there should be four different views of it at the appropriate category in Commons. Murderbike 21:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I picked one & added it. Also added your picture of the 14th Ave Bridge. So the ones mentioned above are the only ones outstanding. I sent an email to Dick Wagner, but haven't yet heard back. And I'll try getting hold of Historic Seattle and see if they can sort out the Judge James T. Ronald House. - Jmabel | Talk 06:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, if the Zodiac is indeed at the Fairhaven Boat Terminal, I should be able to get that tomorrow or the next day. Murderbike 07:37, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I spent awhile running around bellingham taking photos of NRHP stuff, and the camera battery died before I got over to Fairhaven. Sorry. Murderbike 05:46, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

N P Hotel

[edit]

I can't find a citation for the N P Hotel being on the National Register. It's not listed in the usual places. Unless someone can find a citation soon, I'm removing it. - Jmabel | Talk 16:23, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gas Works Park listed?

[edit]

Can anyone provide a source for Gas Works Park being listed on the NRHP? It doesn't come up using the Elkman tools, nor can I find it using the search tools on the NPS website. It is listed at nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com and my guess is that this is why it's on the list here. But WP:NRHP veterans know that this is an unreliable source. I think they include sites in their listings for which an application has been filed, but that have not actually been officially approved and listed. Before I remove it, I thought I'd seek comment here first. --sanfranman59 (talk) 23:53, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I left a message for the editor who added this site to the list. The editor noted that the site is listed on the nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com site but also said that he found a blurb on historicseattle.org indicating that the site had been nominated but not listed. As such, I'm removing it from our list here. --sanfranman59 (talk) 05:34, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi, i'm not local but i'd like to do a DYK-worthy starter article on Naval Reserve Armory, currently a redlink. It's a recent NRHP listing featured by the National Register in its July 17 weekly batch of new listings, and the full NRHP document on it is available in a PDF file linked from here. Its address is 860 Terry Avenue North, in Seattle. Could anyone possibly take a pic or two of it? I can't find any pics at Commons. Or, if anyone would be interested in helping develop it, please just jump in. I will start drafting it in a sandbox at User:doncram/Naval Reserve Armory. Thanks! doncram (talk) 02:34, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
