Talk:List of Xbox Series X and Series S games
A note on sourcing
[edit]As we've found on the Nintendo Switch list, there is a practical limit to how many references can be included on a page. For that reason, please do not use reference when the game has its own blue-linked page (this includes when there's a series page for a sequel) and that the sourcing for the game coming to the XSX is stated there. The only sourcing on this page should be for games without any blue-link and thus require the source here. --Masem (t) 23:49, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Optimized for Series X
[edit]Is this something worth cataloging? As the generation advances, and cross-gen games diminish in number, pretty much every game will be optimized for the Series X. Imagine what the page will look like in 2-7 years time. I understand denoting enhanced games for a mid gen console of the same name but I'm unsure of the idea for a new console. — Niche-gamer 19:18, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Given the way its been discussed so far, not every game will have it as it requires games to take specific advantage of the hardware so indies and some multiplatform titles from smaller devs may not have it. It is meant as a specific branding that MS is providing to devs to have (it's not just a claim) so it is something that can be tracked objectively. --Masem (t) 19:52, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes that makes sense. In 2 years however when cross-gen games have dried up and Xbox Series X is the main performance driver, will we still be tagging every game designed for XSX as optimized or will the tagging cease? — Niche-gamer 22:58, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, certainly willing to review if *every* game after six months or a year is "Optimized for Series X" (with only a handful of exceptions). But consider that really List of Xbox One X enhanced games (Which should be integrated into the main Xbox One game lists) is not very large, this might not a large set either. We'll have a better sense in 6-9-12 months from now. --Masem (t) 23:05, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- It also has the potential to cause confusion see. If early cross-gen games on Xbox Series X have the 'optimized' tag, to help distinguish them from their Xbox One counterparts, but 3 years later when the latest dedicated Series X AAA game that pushes the system to the limits is no longer tagged because it's optimized by default. A new visitor to the page might think there's a limited number of tagged games exploit the power of the Series X. I guess we could add a short text description to explain what the tag means but I suspect few are going to read. On the PS5 page at least I prefer not to add the tag and reserve that space for a potential mid-gen hardware refresh. — Niche-gamer 09:13, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- There is the other factor that hasn't been confirmed but more stories came out this week of the lower-powered 4th gen Xbox, the equivalent of the Xbox One S to Xbox One X, which games with this branding would still play out but would not have the optimizations as on the XSX. Of course, without actually having that console known and knowing if that's how MS wants to position the branding of "optimized for series x" its all still speculation. Again, fair game to review when we know the bigger picture on things. --Masem (t) 12:27, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

I agree, most Xbox Series X/S games that are listed, are actually 'Optimized' if not all are, maybe take a look and see what we can do. StarStorm10 (talk) 03:47, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
To be honest, I think that “Optimized for Xbox Series X and S” games are just Xbox Series X and S games at this point. Those that aren’t are just Xbox One games running through backwards compatibility. I think that we can just list all the games with that branding and have a more accurate list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:85:C300:4800:C997:67:9155:EC70 (talk) 14:34, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
Page to follow Xbox One games and PlayStation 4 criteria
[edit]I was hoping we could follow the same criteria as found in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 lists and not the Nintendo Switch list like I did here for example. I think it would not be a good idea to follow a game list that is not Sony or Microsoft specific. Xbox and PlayStation are not Nintendo's consoles. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 16:25, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know what you're asking for. All you did in that diff was remove the row tag and space the dates on new lines. This has no functional difference. -- ferret (talk) 18:47, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
- I do note that I have ask people not to source blue-linked games that include affirmed XSX(or PS5) releases here as to avoid that situation that happened on the Switch here. Sourcing should only be for games w/o page. (And to that end I want to see if we can absolutely avoid "Games announced only via social media" and stick to those covered in RS only that have a shot at having an article. --Masem (t) 19:19, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
