Interesting list but the majority of the links go to a highly biased website. There is no attempt at providing a rounded POV and furthermore the language is quite inflammatory. It could do with bein merged into the History of Sri Lanka article.

Do not agree with the anonymous posters request to merge with history of Sri Lanka, but will do my best to find neutral sources. User:RaveenS
I also oppose the merger.
We should "neutralize" the language somewhat. And maybe review the links and rather add ones by impartial organisations, if there are any to be found (not impartial organisations, but articles by them). ;-) Krankman 01:18, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, I am also going to create individual articles on each of these riots as my next project using neutral sources as much as possibleRaveenS 14:03, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Tagging the article for violating NPOV and factual inaccuracies

There is no evidence of government involvment in 1958 riots. No evidence Sri Lankan troop participated in Trinco riots. No citations and highly POV langauge throughout.Ruchiraw 05:07, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Please do not reference from websites run by LTTE front organisations or sympathisers. Try and use international organisations like Amnesty or the UN . I could also create a list of Tamil massacres of muslims and sinhalese in Sri Lanka citing only the Hela Uramaya website , but that would not be neutral or meaningful.Ruchiraw 05:10, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

You are setting a standard here that is impossible to meet. The Internet did not exist in the 1950s. Most of the neutral sources documenting the 1958 riots exist only in offline form - see for instance major newspapers of the time, or books by later historians like Stanley Tambiah or A. Jeyaratnam Wilson. The only online sources you are going to find are from pro-Tamil sites, most of which are also pro-LTTE. There is nothing wrong with this as long as the facts are correct. You yourself have contributed to Notable attacks by the LTTE which uses government web sites.
It's wikipedia policy not to allow existence of material which is not cited.Ruchiraw 17:17, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I meant don't reference only from these sites. Find some other reliable ones as well. Ruchiraw 06:14, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
The article never said the government was directly behind the 1958 riots - just that the police and army failed to protect Tamil civilians from the mobs. That much can be verified from the offline sources I mentioned earlier. Tyronen 05:38, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Then followiung sentence is very misleading Ruchiraw 06:14, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

The pogrom of 1958 began under leadership of Prime Minister Bandaranaike[citation

Following is factually inaccurate. No evidence of Sri Lankan military carrying out killings

Recent massacres of Tamil civilians by organized Sinhalese mobs and the Sri Lankan military were widely reported in the media in the town of Trincomalee in April of 2006.

Following also incorrect. Only one riot occurred throughout the 1960s and 1970s

There were also organized terror campaigns against the Tamil minority throughout the 1960s and 1970s. There

It is a fact that the killers of 1958 were, if not even supported, at least protected by members of the police force and the government. Several impartial books relate the whole story. It is an accepted as a given in the scientific community. Everything else is trying to cover up what happened.
I will name a few sources soon, maybe also on violence in the 60s and 70s. I'll do it possibly tomorrow if I find the time. Krankman 18:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Hmpf. Promised too much. I don't have the respective books here. Would need to get them from the University Library. Is that really necessary? Only a few stubborn Sinhala nationalists will seriously doubt the accuracy of that information. Krankman 13:31, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Reorganization needed

See my post on Talk:State_terrorism_in_Sri_Lanka#Reorganization_needed. Tyronen 22:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I propose the name of this list to be changed to List of anti-minority riots and pogorams and keep it with links to major articles on each instances such as 1915, 1958, 1977, 1983... RaveenS 12:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
