The page Sex Workers' Rights Movement is a cut down list of sex worker organizations that can be found in this article. Is there a need for two pages? John B123 (talk) 18:30, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@John B123: I think it's best to take advantage of the content, then delete it. The Sex Workers' Rights Movement should talk about the movement, not redirect to a list.Guilherme Burn (talk) 18:32, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guilherme Burn: Agree the Sex Workers' Rights Movement should be more than a list, but it's not hence the merge proposal.
Not sure why you have added the overly detailed tag to the list page? John B123 (talk) 16:36, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is because lists are usually composed of "articles" (notable items / blue links).Guilherme Burn (talk) 17:40, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guilherme Burn: - I disagree, some "List of ...." are purely articles, some contain no links to articles and other are a mixture of both, for example List of red-light districts. Generally when a list is purely a listing of articles (blue links), then it's named "Index of ....", not "List of ...", eg Index of prostitution-by-area articles.
Quoting from the Template:overly detailed template: This template is used to identify articles which, while understandable, have excessive information about trivial subjects and need to be refocused to suit a more general audience. Nothing in in the article is trivia, so the use of this template is inappropriate. John B123 (talk) 08:18, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Our class is about to create a page for Sex Worker Movements and will be linking to this and other pages Juamari (talk) 21:58, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose the merger because frankly the two aren't comparable as articles. A movement is individuals and organization working together to achieve one or several ends; the list of orgs serves as an overflow article for content in the article Sex workers' rights#Regional Organizations from what I can see. There is an extensive history of the sex workers' rights movement in news and academia and non-academic publishing that as of now hasn't been documented on this site (or at least not in the place where it would be most appropriate to do so), likely due to the demographics of Wikipedia. I suggest that wikipedians, possibly even yourselves, work to improve the 'Movement' article rather than attempting a merge.

To quote WP:MERGE

"Merging should be avoided if: ... The separate topics could be expanded into longer standalone (but cross-linked) articles

The topics are discrete subjects warranting their own articles, even though they might be short"

In this instance I am of the opinion that both apply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LibrePrincess (talkcontribs) 18:47, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
