1981 terrorist attack

[edit]

How can there be no mention of the 1981 terrorist attack against the Air National Guard station at the airport? As I recall it is still the worst loss of aircraft by the US Air Force in a single incident since the Vietnam War.— Preceding unsigned comment added by KomandorskiMaru (talkcontribs) 19:47, 26 June 2007

How many passengers does it handle?

[edit]

I'm sure its over 10 million — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoricuaPR (talkcontribs) 05:44, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PRPA Web site officialy says it was 10.6 million. I have updated the page to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by M gonzalez (talkcontribs) 02:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see it... — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoricuaPR (talkcontribs) 01:24, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated this page several instances, but it gets deleted over and over again, returning to previous versions. The official number would still be 10.6M passengers in '05. — Preceding unsigned comment added by M gonzalez (talkcontribs) 01:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This ain't the only international airport in PR

[edit]

Rafael Hernandez (Aguadilla) is international and I think Mercedita (Ponce) is international too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoricuaPR (talkcontribs) 19:50, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

none of the airports above mentioned are international. They both serve flights to and from the U.S. and to the rest of the caribbean. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.50.37.138 (talk) 00:35, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Serving the other Caribbean islands makes it an international airport and if you go to the LMM International Airport website it says that the Rafael Hernandez airport is also international.--BoricuaPR 22:49, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Flights from PR to the United States would be considered international, I think, since PR is a U.S. territory, not U.S. state. But there wouldn't be a customs check. I think the flights have a similar status to flights between the U.S. and Canada, except they don't require United States border preclearance. --Inetpup (talk) 15:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The above comment, although rational, is inaccurate. Puerto Ricans have USA social security numbers, use USA currency, and passports are not required to fly between each location. It isn't an international flight to the USA, however its considered international to fly to someplace as close as Dominican Republic. I've heard this explained at airports to people a number of times. I think sometimes Puerto Ricans are a little blinded by pride and wish to exaggerate things a little, nothing wrong with that though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NastyMix (talkcontribs) 04:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Destinations/flights

[edit]

There are direct flights to El Dorado International(Bogota Colombia)and I'm pretty sure there are more to many other cities not listed...--BoricuaPR 22:53, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are also direct flights lo Los Angeles(LAX)and I think Las Vegas and Hartford too--BoricuaPR 15:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are flights to Chicago's Midway airport too--BoricuaPR 15:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know there are flights to San Jose(CR) for sure...are there flights to Port Au Prince Int'l?--BoricuaPR 03:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)207.166.121.204 03:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are no non-stop flights to Chicago/Midway, Bogota, Las Vegas, Port Au Prince or San Jose (CR). American flies to both Hartford and LAX and both are already listed. Kimmykun 07:21, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really sure there are non-stop flights to Bogotá.Are you sure about the others?--BoricuaPR 22:37, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is something seriously wrong with this airport

[edit]

Just want to flag an issue so that someone else can insert it if they can get a source on it; I won't do the edit as putting it in unsourced might look like POV or OR.

There's something seriously wrong with an airport like SJU where they actually have employees at the baggage claim who demand your claim check and match it to your bag, to make sure you're not stealing someone else's bag. I have been in airports all over the U.S. and all over the world and have never seen that before! Usually the fact that most people don't put valuable items in checked baggage (because of the risk of theft by baggage handlers) is sufficient to minimize baggage claim theft. --Coolcaesar (talk) 06:29, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't always happen. I land in Puerto Rico frequently and sometimes I just walk out and sometimes they want to verify I have the correct luggage. Seems like a reasonable check to me. I had it happen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa once too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NastyMix (talkcontribs) 04:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin Atlantic Route

[edit]

Just out of curiosity, why if Virgin Atlantic flies from SJU to Antigua and not to Gatwick, it's kept that way? Because it has the same flight number? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.45.81.224 (talk) 23:42, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of New Routes

[edit]

I think the removal of New Routes is not only unjustified, but also vandalism. Whatever happened to new routes for destinations for Bogotá and São Paulo from Gol Airlines, as well as the flight to Bogotá via Panama City? Why remove New Routes? JMBZ-12 (talk) 13:39, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The New routes section is not needed, they will just be listed in the current table with the others. Tofutwitch11 (TALK) 18:03, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And none of those have start dates. When those dates are announced, then you can list them in the table. Snoozlepet (talk) 04:10, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting Information

[edit]

This article says that following the plane crash that killed Roberto Clemente, no bodies or wreckage were ever found. However, the article about Roberto Clemente says that one body and part of the wreckage were found. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.229.114 (talk) 16:48, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Airport Damaged by Tremor

[edit]

Though I wasn't able to find the source, most likely because no news channel has heard about what happened, a 4.78 magnitude earthquake has caused moderate damage to the main airport. JMBZ-12 (talk) 03:56, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

American Eagle Hub?

[edit]

This is where you can discuss whether to add American Eagle or not to the hub list. Keep it "G" rated please, you will be blocked if you use foul language. Thank You! Kairportflier (talk) 02:42, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

yes, SJU is indeed a hub for American Eagle according to AA.com but it is a regional airline/subsidiary of American Airlines but AA no longer have a hub at SJU but Eagle still does. Just like American Eagle have a hub at LGA but it is a focus city for American Airlines. Snoozlepet (talk) 02:55, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
One principle regarding regionals: Listing hubs at airline articles doesn't automatically mean listing hub airlines at airport articles. It doesn't make sense to list SkyWest or United Express at SFO. However, Eagle is a bit different as brandname and operator are nearly identical. It's a subsidiary not a contract, like previously Continental Micronesia, so I'd lean on allowing MQ to be listed on SJU, at least in prose if not also in infobox, especially if there are current sources supporting it. (Note sources may be outdated due to recent cutbacks.)HkCaGu (talk) 05:55, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have to go against listing and writing MQ. Its a regional airline unlike cape air and is just doesn't seem right. Kairportflier (talk) 21:38, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean in prose or in the infobox for "hub for"? Snoozlepet (talk) 19:33, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Both. Kairportflier (talk) 21:30, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Airlines formerly using Luis Munoz Marin International airport

It looks as if all of these airlines abandoned the airport and serving Puerto Rico

It should be stated that some of the airlines that no longer use the airport went out of business (ACES Colombia, Air Jamaica, BWIA, Viasa, Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela, Dominicana de Aviación, ATA Airlines)or merged with others (Northwest Airlines, Continental, Northwest)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "transtats.bts.gov":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 16:49, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Service from Toronto by Sunwing Airlines is NOT seasonal (see Wikipedia article for Toronto airport and airline website)

Airline list

[edit]

Should we merge the scheduled airline list with the charter list? For the charter airlines, we could put Charter or Seasonal Charter. The airport´s website lists the airlines altogether AND there are airlines missing. Other wikipedia webpages list the services that way like Punta Cana, Miami, Madeira, Palma De Mallorca Airport, among others.

Missing Airlines:

Air Margarita, Air Flamenco, Island Birds (Rome International) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robleroy172225 (talkcontribs) 19:39, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • As a Puerto Rican who loves Puerto Rican airports but who is not living in the country, I find this information very interesting. Now, when you you say Rome International, what do you mean? Because I went to Island Birds; page and they have like Piper chieftain only, even if only the pilot was flying, this plane's range would be too short for SJU-Flumicino non-stop. RfC on start and end dates for flights operating for >1 month

[edit]

The Delta-operated RDU-SJU flight only operates for three weeks, from December 23 to January 6. Delta's page lists both the start and end dates, and it has the same for Fort Myers. Since the end date has already been announced it should be included as per WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT. There is no guarantee that it will continue to operate in more years so it does not make sense to remove the end date, and since it is a commercial flight it does not make sense to remove it altogether. Janj757 (talk) 01:45, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No - Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia. This is information of no lasting significance and fails on all WP core policy levels so should not be included at all. Adding information of this level just proves that the destination tables are WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTTRAVEL. Andrewgprout (talk) 04:05, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Remove flight. Short-term scheduled flights aren't encyclopedic; such flights should be removed altogether, commercial or not. I understand that the airport policy page doesn't cover this, but I agree with User:Andrewgprout that WP has no business listing anything so temporary; these have no impact on the notability of the airport. I'd apply this to all flights that have a start and end date that are less than 12 months apart. But I agree with the RFC OP that any flight with an announced end date should have the end date listed (even if the end date "may" be changed -- no WP:CRYSTALBALL). --A D Monroe III (talk) 16:15, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This article is in poor shape. Wikipedia is supposed to summarize the information from cited sources. The user making this proposal is not citing any source, so I oppose that proposal. Also, maybe 50% of this article's content should be deleted without consideration. To clean this article (1) delete all citations which do not meet the standard at WP:RS then (2) delete all sentences and statements which are not backed with a citation. Following Wikipedia's basic rules resolves this issue. Blue Rasberry (talk) 10:56, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused as to what is being opposed here. The RfC, as I understand, is about including the end date for a flight. The argument for this oppose !vote is that the article is poor? How does that reflect on the inclusion of the end date? What am I missing? --A D Monroe III (talk) 13:45, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Original construction date?

[edit]

Re: "San Juan International Airport, in Isla Grande, that had been operating since 1929 "

Following the link to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport, it says "Originally constructed by the U.S. Navy as Naval Air Station Isla Grande just prior to World War II,[5] ". The archive reference [5] lists 1939. I wonder if it's a simple typo, and the sentence should end "operating since 1939 "? Darci (talk) 17:52, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Photos of Terminal D

[edit]

Hi all, I'm the Terminal D guy. I've put up some additional photos regarding the airport's current renovations. Please trim if necessary. Also, I really want to add photos of the new mural that's been installed, and the former map that was in its place. I suspect they'd be against Wikipedia's policies though.
