The other Marbury Hall
[edit]In an astonishing coincidence I was linking to the other Marbury Hall, in Marbury, Cheshire, just as you were writing this! I don't know which should have the unqualified title Marbury Hall -- the other doesn't have an article yet, but it does still exist, and is a grade-II-listed building. Espresso Addict (talk) 08:13, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I had not realised there was another Marbury Hall! There is also a locomotive with that name listed here. Is it worth changing this page into a Disambiguation page and I will rename this article to something else? Pixie2000 (talk) 08:52, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think it might be clearer -- people from both halls have served in various of the Cheshire administrative capacities in the past, so it's likely to get linked for both with reasonable frequency. I don't plan on starting an article right now but I will describe the Marbury cum Quoisley one under Marbury, Cheshire#Landmarks shortly. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 10:21, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I will make this a disambiguation and move this one to something like Marbury Hall, Anderton with Marbury. Pixie2000 (talk) 11:28, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- Moved now. Pixie2000 (talk) 11:28, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Salvin v Gibbs
[edit]By the way, Pevsner states the original house was by James Gibbs, and was totally remodelled by Salvin c. 1850, ie, the house of 1850 wasn't a new one, just substantially rebuilt. I'd guess that Pevsner was more authoritative than the CCC leaflet that you cite, unless you have other sources to the contrary? Espresso Addict (talk) 10:34, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I was slightly wary of my source, as there is no mention to Marbury Hall on the Anthony Salvin wikipedia page. I posted on his talk page to see if anyone can confirm. To be fair to the CCC leaflet, it only says "design" and does not refer to a build, but other web references imply it was re-built. I will leave it as it is for the moment until I can get confirmation either way, as I have no access to Pevsner to cite the change to Gibbs. Pixie2000 (talk) 11:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I've found some more definitive info on this point and added it to the article; while I was in the library, I also found some interesting facts about the collection -- I'm going to nominate it for DYK now, hoping to slip it under the deadline, but will come back and do a bit more expansion later -- must dash now! Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 14:13, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent update - well done! Pixie2000 (talk) 17:34, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
