Mary as a Christian
[edit]I came across an article that said Mary was a devout Christian here. Can anyone confirm this and/or list a reference issue where this can be supported. Thank you. -- Jeffrywith1e 22:47, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- See "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League" for references to Mary's Christianity. While she may not be devout, she is depicted as a christian, and is very much ill at ease at being in Hell. Orville Eastland 04:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I understand in the original Fawcett continuity, it was implied, but not confirmed, that Billy and Mary were Catholic and Freddy was Jewish. Who knows what DC is doing. They have Freddy getting a tatoo, and probably Mary will get into the occult ... Billy probably worshops the Roman-Greek gods. I prefer to accept the Fawcett continuity as canon. To me all the DC stuff is invalid except for Alex Ross' "Justice" and "Shazam: Power Of Hope".
- You might fidn yourself at cross-purposes when editing, then. If its published by DC,then it is, by definition, valid. You might not like it, and you will need to keep a close watch on your own preferences to make sure they don't color your edits. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Mary Marvel 3000
[edit]I recall, though not well, a capeless female Captain Marvel of the 30th century who appeared during the "Legionaires" era of the Legion of Super Heroes. She was not at first aware of her powers and her parents hoped to keep her from discovering them. I believe she aided the Legion a few times and then appeared a very few times in other settings (time travel not having been uncommon during that era of LSH). My sense was that this was an attempt to reboot the Captain Marvel character prior to "Power of Shazam", and if so, would explain why the character was seemingly abandoned. Asat 07:24, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- This character is Thunder, who first appeared in a Power of Shazam! annual. She is covered in the linked article, and does not need to be covered here. --FuriousFreddy 02:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Costume in 52
[edit]The issue with the Black Marvels saving Halloween (that sounds terrible) had Mary in her white costume, not the red one as the article suggests she is wearing consistently in the series. I actually shot upright in bed last night when I realized I'd seen her wearing that costume and not thought anything of it. So I made a small change showing the alternation (probably the red costume was a mistake). If anyone wants proof I'll gladly scan the revelant pages so you can see. 74.114.147.235 03:53, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Messianic
[edit]I was just wondering if anyone else had peiced together that Mayry Marvel may go insane or become delusional and start a new religion or something during Countdown. I mean, the WWMMD teaser and the "Seduction of The Innocent" poster do point to that. Comments? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.188.7.188 (talk) 01:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC).
- I'm thinking she's going to be Eclipso. Jeffrywith1e 03:44, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm thinking we aren't a fan-site, and should wait to see what happens. :) Seriously, guys, this isn't a fan forum. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:55, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Hippolyta's Asterisk
[edit]In the article, Hippolyta has an asterisk by her name. Is this to avoid confusing the Fawcett Hippolyta with the Queen Hippolyta of Wonder Woman, or is there another reason? Orville Eastland 04:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Mary's age
[edit]She seems to be portrayed as of consenting age. Can anyone confirm this?

"Like Annie"
[edit]The assertion that a plot element is "like Annie" may be original research and needs to be sourced. I have added a tag. -moritheilTalk 20:39, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've taken it one step further and removed the statement entirely. It is original research and it doesn't really add much information to the article, so there's really no reason for it to be in there. Nutiketaiel (talk) 17:00, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Mary Marvel
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mary Marvel's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
Reference named "Fulton":
- From Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Sandberg, David F. [@ponysmasher] (June 21, 2021). "Yes, Grace now plays both parts. But her hair and makeup is slightly different when she's super so nobody will ever recognize her. Hey, it works for Wonder Woman!" (Tweet). Archived from the original on June 21, 2021. Retrieved June 21, 2021 – via Twitter.
- From Shazam! (film): Kroll, Justin (November 2, 2017). "Annabelle Creation Actress Grace Fulton Joins Shazam". Variety. Archived from the original on November 7, 2017. Retrieved November 2, 2017.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 07:09, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Acronym SHAZAM different for Mary Marvel than for Captain Marvel
[edit]In the wikipedia Mary Marvel entry, the following exists: "Rod Reed, the executive editor of Fawcett comics at the time that Mary Marvel was created, recalled that, originally, the letter "S" in Shazam was to have stood for Sappho. Rather than give his young heroine the questionable powers of a Greek poet from the isle of Lesbos, Reed suggested that Selene, goddess of the moon, might be a more wholesome choice."
When Mary Marvel was first introduced (in Captain Marvel Adventures #18 - December 1942), the acronym SHAZAM had the following meaning:
Selena (not the actual Goddess Selene), Goddess of the Moon - Grace
Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons - Strength
Ariadne, Spirit of Skill - Skill
Zephyrus, Spirit of the West Wind - Fleetness
Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn - Beauty
Minerva, Goddess of Wisdom - Wisdom
Why is Selena listed as Selene on the Mary Marvel wikipedia page?
