"Socialist"

This article talks about Sanders being the first "socialist mayor" in decades, and his "socialist administration". It seems quite clear that Sanders ran and served as an independent. Unless he self-identified as a socialist during his tenure or was a member of the Socialist Party we shouldn't be using Wikipedia's voice to call him one. Calling Sanders a "socialist" is a common present-day slur. The Senator identifies as a "democratic socialist"; the differences between socialism and democratic socialism are vast, and the omission of "democratic" is intentional and ad hominem. Just to be clear, "intentional ad hominem" refers to present-day attempts to marginalize Sanders and his platform, not the editors of this article who have described him as "socialist". I certainly assume the latter is in good faith. Joefromrandb (talk) 13:07, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
