[edit]
Milk sickness is very deadly. You should be very cutious around people that have it.
Eurocentric bias
[edit]There is a classically Eurocentric error in the latter paragraph. Dr. Bixby did not, by the text presented, "discover" the cause of milk poisoning - it was told to her by another knowledgeable source. As is usual, an unnamed Native American source is not worthy of being considered the "discoverer" or even the source of cultural information - no, the white Dr. Bixby is the "discoverer." It is grimly amusing that the writer, whether in the original material or in the quote, laments that Bixby was never given proper credit. A more sophisticated writer should both verify the validity of this claim and recompose the content to reflect Dr. Bixby's role. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.144.98.245 (talk) 18:25, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Agree. It is difficult to penetrate the layers, as some of the article appears to be almost verbatim from "Dr. Anna, Anna Hobbs Bixby", at this site, prepared by Illinois libraries, it appears.
<http://www.alliancelibrarysystem.com/IllinoisWomen/files/lg/htm1/lg000003.html> There were certainly earlier reliable sources than the 1996 Illinois History article by a high school student. It may never be possible to find the name of the Shawnee woman.Parkwells (talk) 15:47, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Sourcing year error in source
[edit]In:
Cone, Jr., Thomas E. (1993). "VIII.90: Milk Sickness (Tremetol Poisoning)". The Cambridge World History of Human Disease. 1: 880–883. doi:10.1017/CHOL9780521332866.152. {{cite journal}}

It lists: "Snively, William D., Jr., and Louanna Furbee. 1956. Discovery of the cause of milk sickness. Journal of the American Medical Association 196: 1055-60." as a reference. The year should be 1966.Smallman12q (talk) 01:07, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

"the slows"
[edit]Interesting name in light of the fact that Lincoln once said Gen. McClellan had "the slows". 100.15.127.199 (talk) 00:25, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
