Title
[edit]This title is rather POV (martyrs from whose perspective?) and extremely unhelpful to searchers. The Atlas mountains stretch from Morocco to Tunisia; I rather suspect there have been martyrs, Catholic and otherwise, elsewhere in them. The affair of the Tibhirine monks is rather important in Algerian politics, and is much better known by the name of that village. I suggest retitling the page "Tibhirine monks' killing". - MBarth (talk) 12:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC) Please the GIA part of the Gov like al Quida being part of the Pakistani ISI this may be true in reguard to individuals or maybe large factions but I doubt most of the Gov. was and when did the gov start support or did they start it and then it got out of control? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.66.6.229 (talk) 19:48, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
I moved the page to assassination of the monks of Tibhirine. Gugganij (talk) 14:52, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
"Assassination"
[edit]The equivalent article in French is called Assassinat des moines de Tibhirine.
The word assassinat typically means "murder" and that would probably be a better translation in this case.
Therefore, Murder of the monks of Tibhirine, which is the title of the French WP article.

Page move
[edit]I dont like the recent page move from "Murder of the monks of Tibhirine" to "Assassination of the monks of Tibhirine", which was not discussed. Assassination implies a dignity of motive that is not warranted here. Also, these were not prominent, political people, by any definition. The article states that "the monks had been accidentally killed by the Algerian army", which is also suspect. Ceoil (talk) 03:26, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Ceoil: Assassination was the stable title. I boldly moved it to murder because of the reason you expressed here. I didn't realize it was on the main page at the time, and when I saw that, I reverted my own move. I think it is a bad idea to move anything that is on the main page while it is there, but would be more than happy to move it tomorrow or to start an RM. TonyBallioni (talk) 03:30, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- Tony, ok, thanks for explaining. Agree with your original, bold move to murder. Would be in favour of a RM discussion, after main page. Ceoil (talk) 03:37, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- I would wait until it is off the main page to file, but I'll definitely support (or file it myself) when that happens. TonyBallioni (talk) 03:46, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- Grand Tony. I'd say just move (after main page), I don't see this as controversial. Ceoil (talk) 03:52, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
