Untitled[edit]

"Dr. McNally did not appear in the first season of The West Wing, a season which saw several notable international crises (the Indian invasion of Pakistan, for example). She was likely appointed after "Celestial Navigation", when HUD Secretary Deborah O'Leary was the "highest-ranking African-American woman in [U.S.] government"."

Actually, that's not neccessarily the case. If you're talking about the constitutional order of succession, the HUD secretary is eligible to become president (13th in line), whereas the National Security Advisor isn't. Moreover, the NSA is primarily an advisor to the president, wheras the HUD secretary has policy responsibilities. So you could arguably say that in terms of absolute rank, the HUD secretary has a higher "rank" than the National Security Advisor, despite the gravity of the latter's duties. 69.19.24.253 23:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

National Security Agency Director?[edit]

When in the final season does it say she becomes National Security Agency Director? I remember at times it referred to her as former NS Advisor and her reporting that the NS Agency had tapped Santos' phone, but I don't remember it directly mentioning her promotion to Director of the NSA. HUD vs. National Security Advisor[edit]

She was likely appointed after "Celestial Navigation", when HUD Secretary Deborah O'Leary was the "highest-ranking African-American woman in [U.S.] government".

This seems dubious. A cabinet secretary is considered higher-ranking than any White House staffer, including the Chief of Staff, although obviously the latter often have more real power. john k (talk) 22:58, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree and have removed that statement from the article. Besides, what is "likely" to have happened is speculative (i.e. original research). --Hnsampat (talk) 23:30, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

There isn't much information available about Nancy McNally besides plot summary. As such, I say we merge it to List of characters on The West Wing. --Hnsampat (talk) 23:33, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
