Nun Farts
[edit]There was an incorrect translation of Pets the soeurs as Nun's Farts in the previous version of this article. The actual origin of the name stems from when all teachers in French Canada were catholic nuns. The name is actually an odd anglicism meaning teacher's pets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.155.82.15 (talk) 15:18, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Plural vs. singular
[edit]There seems to be some confusion regarding which variant should be used:
- Pets de soeurs
- Pets de soeur
- Pet de soeur
I don't have a strong position on this, but it should be resolved by discussion here, rather than being changed repeatedly. At present, I favor alternative #2, but am open to persuasion. Reify-tech (talk) 20:10, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
Indeed the french wikipedia article gives a reference to a dictionary entry from a dictionary created by the Government of Quebec. I think we are on pretty solid ground to defer to the spelling there: pet de sœur or pet-de-sœur. And following normal french grammar the plural would be pets-de-sœurs or pets de sœurs. I would also argue that since this a French term and not an English one borrowed from french that the œ ligature should be retained. This is also consistent with the recommendations in the MoS.TextAlchemist (talk) 17:04, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
As no one responded to my suggestion above, I will go ahead and change the spelling from 'Pêtes' to 'Pets'.TextAlchemist (talk) 17:53, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
