Ode?

[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that their is no "ode" in the German title? Someone not knowing German could just think "An" means "ode". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:27, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency with original source

[edit]

As of this posting, the Lyrics header is word-for-word in Beethoven's Ninth (without the Oh friends, not these sounds! etc.) and not what is in the ode's German Wikipedia counterpart or Wikisource. Has anybody noticed this, and will someone at least revert to the best version with the latter? ~ POKéTalker05:37, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Audiences

[edit]

Is anything known about the original audience for this rarest of rare compositions? WinOrVodka (talk) 10:24, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rejection

[edit]

"If it did not happen, it cannot be cited", but in the case of Ode to Joy and the rejection by the Peace Movement at large, it is a case of significant and clear lack of interest or allegiance.WhiskyOrVodka (talk) 10:39, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Revival

[edit]

The puzzling revival of this composition with a mixed reputation and unclear origins may be seen against the background of the turmoil and turbulence of two devastating world wars in Europe and around the world. However, democratic perspectives and the ground realities do raise the question, that allusions to outer space in the quest for peace and brotherhood of humanity may a be a bit too far fetched for ordinary humans and tax payers, who do make the majority of the electorate. Maybe a referendum maybe be on call. RednBlueStar (talk) 22:25, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Referendum on call

[edit]

As my grandpa used to say, referendums are a good idea, when the preceding discussions have been comprehensive with attention to detail. However, is all wisdom for all time to be measured and decided by numbers alone? Tea Biscuits Cake (talk) 06:04, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lyrics

[edit]

There needs to be a more literal line-by-line translation of the lyrics-this is more like a poetic version. Mke1846 (talk) 13:32, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
