Manifestations
I removed the last paragraph on Padampa Sangye in the Manifestations section because:
1- The section mainly refers to the 8 Manifestations which is a complete subject area in Tibetan Buddhism.
2- Padampa Sangye is said to be the same as Kamalashila or another version says they exchanged physical bodies.
3- And mainly: not only Padampa Sangye but hundreds of figures and tulkus and tertons in Tibetan history to contemporary living masters are said to be emanations of Padmasambhava. If we let one in, we can't stop others being added which would be unimaginable and unmanageable.
Please just because one reads something somewhere let's not add it to a topic unless we are fairly competent in the field, specially on the subject of Padmasambhava. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.74.74.104 (talk) 04:47, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Rawalsar
A number of sources tell me that Rawalsar in India is considered to be a sacred place for Buddhists because it was from a lotus in the Rawalsar lake that Padmasambhava manifested himself. Whereas this article says that the lake and the kingdom were in Pakistan or Afghanistan. Can someone put up a reliable source for this? -- Lost(talk) 14:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, in Rewalsar, Padmasambhava appeared on lotus again after a King tried to burn him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.168.139.81 (talk) 03:19, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Project Padmasambhava Pure Land
- [1] "At the base of the Mata Atlantic mountains, near Três Coroas, Rio Grande do Sul Brasil’s southernmost state, such a place is being constructed. Chagdud Gonpa Brasil’s replica of the celestial realm of Zangdog Palri (“Glorious Copper-Colored Mountain”) brings from Tibetan culture symbols of widely-held values like non-violence and inner clarity. Zangdog Palri is Padmasambhava’s pureland, a realm that expresses the splendid environment manifested from enlightened mind."
Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche. Should this be mentioned on the main page?

Quotation from link no. 5: "Wherever the Guru went, he was faced with the prevailing powers that hold primitive mythic beliefs, hostile natural forces, and wrathful wielders of destructive magic. His first task therefore was to provide new explanations for ancient understandings and to demonstrate, in a skillful and unsullied manner, the deepest and most mystic aspects of human existence. He could not ignore the pre-existing predilection for magic and the world of spirits, for Buddhism has always recognized the demonic or godlike forms are the expression of our own minds.
To subdue wrathful spirits is to tame our own negative emotionality, and thus the very obstacles to our spiritual progress. To some therefore, the magical acts performed by Guru Padmasambhava may appear to be an ostentious display of his psychic accomplishments. However his miraculous acts were in actually a pretense for taming malicious beings. By encountering these malevolent demons, he not only transformed their hostile displays into an energetic appreciation for the Dharma, but entrusted to their charge the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the sacred teachings of the Buddha. The Guru thus did not entertain obstacles but instantly transmuted countless manifestations of negativity and compassionately safeguard the tantric teachings in the hearts and minds of all sentient beings."

This doesn't seem to be important for Padmasambhava himself, just contemporary monks and a specific Vajrayana practice. Old discussion, archiving... Bahnheckl (talk) 14:34, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
Chinese Name
Why does this article contain the Chinese language name of Padmasambhava? This hardly seems relevant since this is the English language Wikipedia. - Padmasambhava was born to the North West of the Indian Sub-continent and his field of activity was India, Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan ~ not what was then China. Tibetan and Sanskrit (Devanagari) names may be relevant to the English Wikipedia article — and the side link to the Chinese language article zh:蓮花生 is great alongside all the other links to the corresponding articles in other language Wikipedias — but there is no real justification for having Chinese name cluttering up the body of the article. We might as well include the Urdu name since the Swat valley where Padmasambhava was born is now in Pakistan. Chris Fynn (talk) 11:54, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Something about Padmasambhava in it

- The article you're pointing to doesn't cite any sources and doesn't contain that much information on Padmasambhava. Since this is an old discussion, I'm archiving it. Bahnheckl (talk) 14:34, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
when Padmasambhava he born?
not debating wether Padmasambhava had or not a legendary birth; he must have been born somewhen. the article makes non mention of when he was born, which can be century or millenia after Buddha Shakyamuni was born. at least, first mention of Padmasambhava in a text, or dates of known famous people that were recorded in books. that will give us an idea on when he was born.

- This is frankly embarrassing. Even granted the story of Padmasambhava's miraculous birth from a lotus as an eight-year-old child, and even given different versions of the story passed down through different oral traditions and terma transmissions, we should at least be able to pin down when so-and-so attributes him as having been born, shouldn't we? Whoops!
In attempting to answer Austerlitz's question as to what Rigpa Shedra says regarding Padmasambhava's eight manifestations, I typed out a response with a handful of external links as citations, and then went back to create a "References" section with a reflist as I've become more-or-less accustomed to doing on entry pages.
Apparently things don't work quite the same way on "talk" pages, or else perhaps my coding contains some silly inadvertent error. At any rate, the list of references with external links now appears to show up in the middle of the next section, "On Oathbinding".
I am sorry for this -- it was not my intent to create confusion, least of all to garble a whole different section. At this point I think the less I do to mess with the talk page, the better, probably; so if anyone knows how to fix it and feels so inclined, please be my guest; and by all means, don't hesitate to point me in the right direction so this sort of thing won't happen again. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Be well, Xeltifon (talk) 11:14, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- I've moved the reflist-tag upward. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 16:41, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. I feel a little lost as to how I might express my appreciation sans my accustomed smileys so I suppose the words "I'm a little embarrassed, but very grateful" will just have to suffice. For whatever it's worth I'm finding the side-by-side comparisons quite helpful in these sorts of things, though I must admit to feeling rather like an apprentice xylographer wielding his knife for the very first time! By the time I've carved out a few rather longish sentences heavy-laden with technical terminology (working backwards) -- whoops! -- an innocent slip of the knife: so four hundred years later, translators will have possibly wildly divergent alternate readings, each adopted by different lineages (and probably elaborated at considerable length) to take into consideration in simply trying to discern the original author's intent! But hey -- just gimme twenty years or so, and there's a halfway decent chance I'll actually get pretty good at it. At least, I certainly do aim to try. ;^) ;^) Thank you again. Be well, Xeltifon (talk) 17:23, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- Nevertheless, you seem to know more than just a little bit about Tibetan Buddhism. Fascinating. Poor future translators. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 05:40, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm just a hobbyist with lots of time on his hands, though hopefully one who does at least try not to be too much a jerk about whatever it is I might actually happen to have picked up through the years, all of which looks very much more substantial than it really is thanks to having such resources as Wikipedia at hand. ;^) ;^) I'm very much learning as I go, here. Watch out for random snippets of Tibetan showing up in completely unrelated entries for German Jewish mathematicians and Lady Gaga -- 'cause at the rate I'm goin' now, there ain't no tellin' where they're liable to show up next! Cheers, Xeltifon (talk) 07:13, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
