[edit]The article references only four studies, which is not adequate for an article describing a complete field. Entire aspects of paleoecology are missing: the article mentions Quaternary paleoecological research, but neglects to mention how that research is conducted (lake sediments never make an appearance). Furthermore, the goal of paleoecology is described as primarily biological ("to understand the current state of biodiversity"). While paleoecology undoubtably focuses on reconstructing past biogeographies, it is also incredibly valuable for reconstructing past climates and environmental change. To improve the article, more references should be added, and sections should be written that describe methods of paleoecology besides those that depend on pre-quaternary fossils (as it stands, the article makes it seem as though paleoecology is a by-product of paleontology, and not a separate field).
