Difference between Panzerjager and Jagdpanzer

Who has invented the distinction between "Panzerjäger" and "Jagdpanzer"? Also heavy tank destroyers such as Jagdtiger or Jagdpanther were also called Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B and Panzerjäger Panther, respectively. In my opinion, the German terms "Panzerjäger" or "Jagdpanzer" can be used to refer to any tank destroyer. B), "Panzerjäger" is a) the "Truppengattung" (later parts of the f.e. 6th or "heavy" companies of the Panzergrenadiere) in the Bundeswehr after WW2 and also the name for troops specific for tank destroying. Like Infantry units or artillery units or tank units with extra weapons and purpose. But a "Jagdpanzer" can also be referred to as a "Panzerjäger". Expansion

this article could also be linked to the German war economy Speer, Guderain were all prominant figures in German war efforts who pushed for Jagdpanzers/Panzerjager's why have turretless tanks? this question has not been answered in article- low profile, largest gun on the smallest chasis, cheaper, less advanced, easier to produce ect. (obviously this will not apply to all jagdtiger had a huge profile and was very difficult to produce but you get my point!) (Fdsdh1 (talk) 13:36, 3 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Jäger

Jäger is a noun that lacks a plural form — like 'deer' in English. I changed the translation of Jäger in the text to the singular 'hunter,' since the designation 'tank hunter' is meant singly here.

I also took the adjective "good" out of the clause about putting obsolete equipment to use. Inappropriate and possibly offensive when speaking about German military ops in WWII.

General misunderstanding about Panzerjäger

Panzerjäger was more akin of an army branch (like mountain infantry, paratroops, artillery) in the late 50's to late 90's. Panzerabwehrabteilungen of WW2 (their personnel could be called "Panzerjäger") used towed AT guns, German-style tank destroyers ("Jagdpanzer") and improvised SP AT guns (this is the only thing covered by this Wiki article!) and in some low-cost formations late in the war (Volksgrenadierdivisionen) mere bazookas (Panzerschreck) to do their job. This Wiki article is misleading because it's only about one category of hardware, not about the Panzerjäger in general. See the German Wiki http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerj%C3%A4ger for details. "armoured-hunters" -> "armour-hunters"

I changed the translation of "Panzerjäger" from "armoured-hunters" to "armour-hunters" and "tank-hunters". The German term does not mean hunters who are armoured, it means hunters who hunt Panzers/armour. Indeed early Panzerjägers used towed cannons without armour, then poorly armoured open-topped vehicles, and only then finally vehicles with significant amounts of armour.Elanguescence (talk) 14:44, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

article expansion/after WWII

This is a typical en.wiki-article on a german military subject, only dealing with the nazi-era. It should be mentioned in this article that the Panzerjäger existed in the actual geman army (Bundeswehr) until 2006 using different vehicles like the Kanonenjagdpanzer 4-5 and several types of Raketenjagdpanzer (armed with rockets). 87.178.51.81 (talk) 22:25, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
