USS Darby and Battle of Leyte Gulf?

I had the chance to meet Paul before he passed away and also have a passing interest in the battle of Leyte Gulf. I was amazed to learn that Paul was at the battle. However, I think the text may be wrong or is at least confusing.

The article reads that he served on the USS Darby and at the battle of Leyte Gulf. However, it seems that USS Darby was in Pearl Harbor being retrofitted when the battle of Leyte Gulf began. Perhaps Paul served on another ship as well, such that he was at Leyte Gulf but not on the Darby? (Or perhaps there's an error on the Wikipedia page for the Darby on when she was retrofitted?) 72.233.134.26 (talk) 19:26, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
