Untitled

[edit]

Although Westerberg admittedly lurches between spelling the name of his alter ego as one word and spelling it as two, most reviewers and retailers appear to favor the former. Drysarcasm 07:34, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth?

[edit]

I always thought he was born on the last day of the 50's (12/31/1959) but IMDB.com has his DOB listed as 12/31/1960. For what it's worth, VH1.com also lists Paul's birth year as 1959. Anyone?

AllMusic.com lists it as 1959. The 1954 that's currently listed seems way off. Bcarlson33 05:32, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

I'm adding the cleanup template; the text in this article sort of meanders and runs on in places. Bcarlson33 05:29, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

::"In 2007, "Dyslexic Heart" was used in Smart People movie trailer, a selection made by music supervisor Serena Undercofler." Is there a reason the selector is notable? (She doesn't warrant an entry in wikipedia; so I fail to see how this information is necessary.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.64.19.5 (talk) 01:52, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity

[edit]

I have changed Westerberg's ethnic category from "Swedish-Americans" to "Swiss-Americans". I have done so because of an article/interview in Spin magazine with Westerberg circa 1989/1990 when Westerberg was asked by a reporter (paraphrasing): "Are you Jewish?" to which Westerberg replied (again, paraphrasing): "Oh, I've been asked that a lot because of my surname. No, it's Swiss." ExRat 23:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He probably meant Swedish, since 'Westerberg' is infact a fairly common Swedish name. The fact that he his from Minnesota also points to a possible Swedish heritage.
Well, we can't go by what we "suspect" he meant. ExRat 06:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair the reporter probably misquoted him (happens a lot with Swedish and Swiss), since "Westerberg" definitely isn't a Swiss name but a Swedish one. Not that it really matters. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.231.91.178 (talk) 16:22, 23 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

WESTERBERG is not Jewish. There are tons of BERGS who are not jewish like MARK WAHLBERG. And even those germans like models like EVA PADBERG are of Swedish descent — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:908:193:F40:387C:5289:CB29:807A (talk) 18:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notorious Alcoholic?

[edit]

Maybe I've just read too much of Our Band Could Be Your Life, but shouldn't there be some mention of Paul being a notorious alcoholic? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.206.45.5 (talk) 01:43, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He published I think last year a song "I'm Clean" on 49:00. -SusanLesch (talk) 02:39, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal LIfe

[edit]

Paul Westerberg is not Jewish. I've checked some of these 'citations' and they are all just assertions that don't make any sense. Westerberg went to Catholic high school, came from a Catholic family. Just because a fella has 'berg' at the end of his name doesn't mean he's Jewish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.241.40.126 (talk) 13:46, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any proof of this?

[edit]

If you do have proof please elaborate, I mean how do you know that the 'citations' you've checked saying that his family were Catholic aren't just assertions and make sense? Other than that in the words of Outkast, "You know, you know, you know what to do..." (120.149.124.180 (talk) 11:40, 7 April 2014 (UTC))[reply]

But what's the difference?

[edit]

But what's the difference between your references and mine? Why is yours more proof that he's Catholic? Why is my proof not proof that he's Jewish? I don't understand (120.149.119.141 (talk) 01:49, 3 May 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Well, if you're sure...

[edit]

Well, if you're sure then, then I hope no one minds or objects if I get rid of the references as I was the one who did cite these/them. So I guess I'll just delete them. Is that okay? (120.149.119.141 (talk) 01:51, 3 May 2014 (UTC))[reply]

He isn't Jewish. BTW, here is his father on the 1930 U.S. Census. His own paternal grandparents were Norwegian (where the "Westerberg" surname comes from) and Finnish. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 20:35, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Hallow Wrath, But it could be that his Mother was Jewish. Thus making him Jewish through the maternal line?? Just something to think about.(120.149.124.199 (talk)) — Preceding undated comment added 11:12, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bad citations and missing personal info

[edit]

First of all, I'm going to get rid of the sentence in the personal info section that cites this website: http://westerberg-paul.livejournal.com/538.html

It's clearly not a real blog run by Paul Westerberg, and that website doesn't have citations of its own, so I think it's fair to say that any information retrieved from that site can't be proven as facts.

Second, does anyone have any good information about his first marriage? He was married in the 1980s at some point to a woman named Lori Bizer before they divorced and he married Laurie Lindeed. Also, the Star Tribune mentioned that he and Laurie recently divorced, and I was wondering if anyone has any other sources for that as well.

I'm going to add these details, but feel free to edit them to make them better within the article after I do in case I do a bad job of it, haha. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommy's tonsils (talkcontribs) 04:15, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
