Creation of the Article - notes and suggestions

[edit]

I created this article on July 18, 2008. At the time of its creation, I note that no articles exist for Pilgrim William Mullins or for the ship Fortune to which I have linked. Both Mullins and the Fortune are notable and historically important such that I encourage the creation of articles for each. I also want to add that at the time of this article's creation, the most recently published edition of the Mayflower Families volume for Peter Brown(e) is the third edition. Much of the information of his origins and family are not included in either of the two previous editions and care should be taken by future editors to make sure that the most recent edition is the one used as a source. Finally, though I contend it should be discouraged, should notable descendants of Peter Browne be added to this article at some future time, great care should be taken to ensure that source material for the inclusion of each is properly referenced and is a verifiable source. Having witnessed the repeated decline of verifiability of the list of descendants of William Bradford, sources that are themselves "wikis" (user-submitted content sites), which include RootsWeb.com, GenCircles.com, and others, must be avoided. REMARKS OF User talk:69.130.71.158

Your being arrogant to someone who is adding to the information... not destroying your "scholarship". The date that is refuted by 5 ..... 5 documents, that you refuse to look for. ... but are insistant on make it a personal attack. The arrival documents already list 2 sons born to William & Martha Weighte( Waite) ie widow Forde. A son William and a son John. Daughter Martha Forde was born 21 Nov, 1621 .... not William. All 3 children are listed at arrivial. She, the daughter is listed as being born HERE, at Plymouth Colony. It is hardly vandilism, when you are just copying, A document. Argue with the documents, and the logic of the information, not me. All this because of a date!!! please.........

You must be new on Wikipedia - the only book you cited in the edit summary was published in 1945. The references I gave you are up-to-date and more appropriate. That is what is meant by the most recent scholarship. I suggest, before you get blocked, you read the Wikipedia Guidelines with regard to Reliable Sources and 3RR. I could have reported you but you seem new and I do not want you to get blocked but this is your last warning from me so please study the guidelines before you go about changing facts in an article. Thanks Mugginsx (talk) 19:14, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, my research of the diffs shows you produced NONE of the sources you cited above except one that you mentioned only in the edit summary. You simply changed much information and kept MY sources. What you are saying above about my disregard for your references is therefore disingenuous. Names in Marriages Section not in References

[edit]

I have once again removed the names given in this section which someone entered using the same references I used. These names are NOT in these references. If someone has a NEW source which states the prior names of these women, please list it or leave it blank, as it now is. Ancestry.com is not usually an accepted reference. Thank you. Unknown first name of Mr. Ford

[edit]

It is not appropriate to give a multiple choice of first names of an individual with an (?) if it is disputed or not known. The more recent scholarship does not speculate. Also, Mr. Ford's (husband of Martha) first name cannot be found in list of passengers of the Fortune or the Mayflower. Perhaps a note could be introduced somewhere as to the view of the older scholarship, although I'm not sure if that is acceptable on Wikipedia.Mugginsx (talk) 23:28, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
