Needs work
[edit]Needs some work here. Which phosphate minerals are found in practical and economic concentration for mining as a source of phosphates for fertiliser, etc. Needs an expert here.Eregli bob (talk) 11:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
What about calcium phosphate ?
[edit]The article for superphosphate mentions it is made by adding sulfuric acid to calcium phosphate. But calcium phosphate is not listed as a phosphate mineral ! Well I have been to phosphate mine and fertilizer plant and seen them making it. Needs an expert to clarify here. Eregli bob (talk) 11:49, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Nickel-Strunz 10 ed database
[edit]I reviewed the Nickel-Strunz 10 ed database (non silicates) from webmineral.com. The list improves a lot by sorting the 08 Nickel-Strunz class: phosphates in IMA/CNMNC classes: phosphates, arsenates and vanadates. But there are some possible flaws:
- 08.DE.35 Alumoakermanite ((Ca,Na)2(Al,Mg,Fe2+)(Si2O7)), 09.BB.10 on Mindat.org
- 08.CG.05 Uranophane-beta (Ca[(UO2)SiO3(OH)]2•H2O), but Uranophane (Ca(UO2)2SiO3(OH)2•5H2O), 09.AK.15 on Mindat.org
- 08.BL.10 Springcreekite BaV3+3(PO4)2(OH,H2O)6: is a phosphate and has vanadium as cation
- 08.DC.60 Nevadaite (Cu2+,[ ],Al,V3+)6Al8(PO4)8F8(OH)2•22H2O: is a phosphate and has a vanadium cation too.
Interesting to note is:
- 03.DD.30 Mosesite Hg2N(Cl,SO4,MoO4,CO3)•H2O (Hydrated Acid and Sulfates on Dana)
- 03.DD.30 Gianellaite Hg4(SO4)N2 (Anhydrous Acid and Sulfates on Dana)
- 03.DD.35 Kleinite Hg2N(Cl,SO4)•nH2O (Oxyhalides and Hydroxyhalides on Dana)
