Advertisements

[edit]

This is a strange page, it it informative or mostly advertising? rakkar 06:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well spoken. Mostly? Me being from Germany shouldnt care about advertising in this version, but if the same rules apply, somebody should at least delete the link. nullbarriere 19:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I've just now removed the link to photobookguide.com.

I hadn't previously heard of the site. I took the link to it and liked what I saw. (I particularly appreciated the less-than-enthralled view "Dollars and sense" on the opening page.) But what I saw wasn't very much. Most of the books are collections by individual photographers, and there seem to be fewer than twenty of these books. The site may very well become one of the first places to go for reviews of photo books, but it's nowhere near there yet. As long as it isn't there, and as long as it links to Amazon, a link to it from this article looks promotional.

Again, I wish it well. Removing the link to it in its present state does not mean that a link shouldn't be added later to it in an expanded state. -- Hoary 01:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move, removed hyphen

[edit]

(Pinging User:Hoary as the primary caretaker, haha.) This was moved from "photobook" to "photo-book" in 2011, but I do not see the evidence hinted at in the edit summary. It's tricky to use Google search results for something like a hyphen anyway. The OED doesn't have it in any of the three forms (photobook, photo book, photo-book) and neither does Merriam-Webster; the Cambridge Online Dictionary has it without a hyphen, so that looks like pretty strong evidence to me. Note that hyphens were added by the same editor who moved the article, User:Artiquities, but they're all gone now I think--one was removed by User:InedibleHulk a few years ago. I have an opinion, Drmies, but can I be bothered to summon the evidence, present the argument, counterquibble the quibblers? Hmm. -- Hoary (talk) 00:53, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Hoary, you can just do what I did and *pretend* you have a reason. ;) Drmies (talk) 01:25, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now we're talking, Doc! -- Hoary (talk) 02:10, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some books about what the books call "photobooks":

  • Matthew Carson, Russet Lederman, Olga Yatskevich, eds. 10×10 American photobooks (2013)
  • Bruno Ceschel, Self publish, be happy: A DIY photobook manual and manifesto (2015)
  • Jörg Colberg, Understanding photobooks: The form and content of the photographic book (2017)
  • Horacio Fernández, The Latin American photobook (2011)
  • Horacio Fernández, New York in photobooks (2016)
  • Frits Gierstberg and Rik Suermondt, The Dutch photobook: A thematic selection from 1945 onwards (2012)
  • Ryūichi Kaneko and Manfred Heiting, The Japanese photobook, 1912–1990 (2017)

  • Martin Parr and WassinkLundgren, eds, The Chinese photobook/中國攝影書集: From the 1900s to the present (2016)
  • Peter Pfrunder, ed. Schweizer Fotobücher 1927 bis heute: Eine andere Geschichte der Fotografie = Livres de photographie Suisses de 1927 à nos jours: Une autre histoire de la photographie = Swiss photobooks from 1927 to the present: A different history of photography (2012)
  • The Soviet photobook 1920–1941 = Советская фотокнига 1920–1941 = Das Sowjetische Photobuch 1920–1941 = Le livre de photographie soviétique 1920–1941 (2015)

Perhaps these are outnumbered by books about "photo-books" or "photo books"; perhaps their authors'/editors' decisions are of minor importance to Wikipedia; others are most welcome to comment. -- Hoary (talk) 05:02, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today, like back when, I prefer photobook ("photo book" was just easier at the time). InedibleHulk (talk) 12:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
