Naming
[edit]1. what is the difference between pillow block and plummer block? 2. If both are same why two names? 3. what is ment by floating and fixed in plummer block?
- (1 and 2) They are two names for the same thing. It may be a US/UK difference. Biscuittin (talk) 21:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- (3) I think that, in a floating plummer block, the bearing can move slightly, relative to the housing. This allows for mis-alignment of shafts. Can anyone confirm this? Biscuittin (talk) 21:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
"Floating" refers to the ability of the bearing to move axially in the housing to accomodate shaft expansion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.46.184.20 (talk) 18:33, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
