Photothermal effect

[edit]

There is a part missing here : quasi-ballistic electrons (often referred as "hot" electrons) can be transferred to adsorbed reactants through hot carrier transfer, or they can thermalize. The latter case represents the majority of the electrons' path when the plasmonic particle is exposed to light. This is due to the very short lifespan of the quasi-ballistic electrons (<20fs). These two different possibilities provide two different effects to the medium : photocatalytic and photothermal effect. All of this is explained and/or referenced in most of this research field's publication. PaulPetit0211 (talk) 13:04, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
