The Chocolate Box

[edit]

I've reversed a change that an anonymous user made to my plot summary for "The Chocolate Box" as he seemed to think I made a mistake in confusing Belgium with France. If they or anyone else chooses to look at Christie's text they will find that she made the same possible error and the plot summary should reflect her text.--Jtomlin1uk (talk) 17:42, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right - had to change text back. For the sake of arguement here is Christie's text from the 1974 UK first edition-

"That of which I tell you (said M. Poirot) took place in Belgium many years ago. It was at the time of the terrible struggle in France between church and state. M. Paul Dé roulard was a French deputy of note. It was an open secret that the portfolio of a Minister awaited him. He was among the bitterest of the anti-Catholic party, and it was certain that on his accession to power, he would have to face violent enmity. He was in many ways a peculiar man. Though he neither drank nor smoked, he was nevertheless not so scrupulous in other ways. You comprehend, Hastings, c'é tait des femmes - toujours des femmes! " Now - will someone please explain to me how this story does NOT involve a French deputy when Christie herself said so! If she made a major error in her text - and it looks as if she did - then note it in the references section but leave the plot summary alone to reflect what the book says!--Jtomlin1uk (talk) 16:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I guess dear Agatha made a mistake that would have infuriated her hero. The context of the Flemish question confirms the Belgian political debate that was totally strange to French political life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.164.251.157 (talk) 15:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The man is a French minister, but he lives in Brussels because his wife left him her house there when she died. Must every French minister live in France all the time? I cannot recall if the man had other homes in France, but it seemed possible. The only way to get Poirot linked to that time of contention was for the French man to reside in Belgium, Poirot's bailiwick at the time. On that thinking, I altered the text a bit, not having read this talk page. Not meaning to upset anyone, it is just how the story appeared to me. --Prairieplant (talk) 14:05, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TV adaptations

[edit]

The article says that 17 of the 18 stories have been adapted for TV, with The Lemesurier Inheritance as the exception. However, only 15 are listed with transmission dates below that: The Submarine Plans and The Market Basing Mystery are also not included. Am I missing something, or should the article be amended to say that these two stories have also not been filmed? Jawr256 (talk) 20:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article says elements of the plot of The Lemesurier Inheritance were worked into the ITV adaptation 'The Labors of Hercules'; this is incorrect. However, the word 'Lemesurier' can be seen on a luggage label.

Answer: The matter is that Submarine Plans was extended into The Incredible Theft and Market Basing into Murder in the Mews by Christie, and Incredible Theft and Murder in the Mews are already filmed.Gevorg89 (talk) 17:54, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for clearing that up Jawr256 (talk) 20:19, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nearly four years later, that information is now in the article, in the adaptations section. --Prairieplant (talk) 16:16, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summaries

[edit]

The plot summaries are overloading this article. Could they not be shortened a little -- or a lot? Groomtech (talk) 11:04, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
