Recorded version attached to article seems unusual

The recorded version attached to the article seems like a somewhat unusual take on ths composition. Personally I don't like it much, although these matters are, of course, subject to personal opinion. NeilenMarais (talk) 15:59, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name

Hans von Bülow called the prelude "suffocation", due to its sense of despair. In fact, Chopin's last dynamic marking in the piece is smorzando, which means "dying away".

My native language is italian. In my opinion, "smorzando" doesn't have such connotation. The verb "smorzare" just means "to soften", "to dampen". The right term would be "morendo" (dying), which creates a very similiar effect. Still, that dynamic marking isn't necessarily related to a sense of despair. In addition, in many editions I've only seen a "pianissimo" marking instead of "smorzando" or "morendo".
