Perhaps someone could clarify a few things here:

~ What's the difference between a Region and a Governorate?

~ Are they equivalent "levels" of division or does one include several of the other?

Thanks! --Mpwrmnt 08:54, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oman is administratively subdivided into nine top-level units: five Muhafazah (governorate, محافظة) and four Mintaqah (area or region, منطقة). The top-level units are subdivided into a total of 62 wilayat (districts), which are the secondary level of subdivision. The lowest level of subdivision are the villages. I asked a Wikipedian from the area what is the big difference between Muhafazah and Mintaqah in Oman. I suspect one has more self-rule than the other. I will report here as soon as I have a response.--Ratzer (talk) 07:07, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge/move to "Governorates" page

[edit]

Should this page be moved/merged into Governorates of Oman. - Hooperswim (talk) 13:51, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why? The provinces are the sub-divisions of the governorates. Yet we don't know what are the local sub-divisions of the provinces. jlog3000 (talk)
