The thrombectomy is for acute treatment of PE... the thromboendarterectomy (PTE) is for chronic treatment of PE. The operations differ quite substantially. In PTE the wall of the artery is basically disected ('cause the clot integrates into the wall)-- in the thrombectomy the clot is fished-out. Nephron 00:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, although I would say someone should ad that to the articles, since anyone without medical training will assume these are the same procedure. Not my leg 00:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
