Is this a wet cheese/whey mixture like cottage cheese. The few pictures I found of it made it look like a rather dry curd like feta but I can't be sure. Rmhermen 01:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
It is cottage cheese
[edit]I don't think raejuusto is that different from cottage cheese. Finnish raejuustos that I have eated just have had a bit larger chunk size and the chunks are a bit more solid than in the cottage cheese I bought from Lidl that looks like exactly the pic in the cottage cheese article. But it tastes the same. And that stuff is sold as raejuusto in Finland. The package even reads "raejuusto/cottage cheese". 89.166.23.148 (talk) 00:24, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I've only once eaten non-Finnish cottage cheese, and it was more salty. Raejuusto is kind of flavourless. And also the chunks were bigger. Well, I've never tasted "real" cottage cheese, but there's definitely a difference in how "keso" tastes when compared to how "raejuusto" tastes. Keso has a much stronger flavor. Raejuusto is also usually drier than keso. And based on photos, cottage cheese is a lot more loose, "formless", than raejuusto. So what I'm trying to say is that there are differences even within Scandinavia in these types of cheese, so I think it's pretty plausible to say that the American variety (aka cottage cheese) is a different thing. Also, based on this http://www.ruokatieto.fi/finfood/ffom.nsf/f74df3cfd9c3c42dc2256b8f0045ef3d/e0631d8c58af9550c22565060037e7b0?OpenDocument (sorry, only in Finnish) it appears that all whey is removed when making raejuusto, the Cottage cheese article seems to say that some whey remains. That Finnish article also talks about adding salt and light cream in the process - note that some of the varieties linked in the cottage cheese article seem to include these as well. At most, I would say that raejuusto is a type or form of cottage cheese, but I would not call it the same thing. --Nerwende (talk) 16:41, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
