Merge

[edit]

These two articles cover the same geopgraphical feature, so should be merged. I think the best title is this one. ww2censor (talk) 05:22, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The two articles refer to different but related things. Rockall Bank and Trough refers to the present-day bathymetric feature, whereas the Rockall Basin refers to the mainly Mesozoic Sedimentary basin that underlies the trough. This distinction is also made in the official Irish nomenclature from the Petroleum Affairs Division of the Irish government. My view is that they should remain separate. Mikenorton (talk) 15:10, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surely those distinction can be made clear in one longer article? They are related and as such should be in one related article. Right now there are two rather short articles that are barely more than stubs and casual editors are more likely to find one article of greater value than being split up as they are now. One good article covering everything to do with Rockall would, in my opinion, serve the community better. Think about it. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Bailey Bank

[edit]

What does the name Bill Bailey Bank, which redirects here, refer to? —80.192.180.160 (talk) 03:13, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bathymetric high lying between the Faeroe Islands and the Rockall Plateau, as shown in the accompanying image. I'm not clear why it redirects here though - I'll look to see if there's a better target. Mikenorton (talk) 07:25, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've done some poking around to try and identify who this Bill Bailey person is. Unsuccessful so far. It would be useful to include an explanation of why we have the redirection here. The name is used as a sea area, separate from Rockall, in the BBC Shipping Forecast. However, the history of the name seems quite elusive. jxm (talk) 18:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rockall Through

[edit]

Is it really logical to click on the Edoras Bank link and end up at Rohan (Middle-earth)#Settlements? Dag T. Hoelseth (talk) 08:06, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The links are there to show those who don't know Tolkien's work how the names originated. What alternative were you thinking of? Mikenorton (talk) 19:45, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
