A wikipedia page for "upcoming Linux distribution"?

[edit]

Really? It does not seem to meet WP:N yet. Dreamer_ (talk) 22:22, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are plenty of upcoming pieces of software that are reasonable to be on Wikipedia. For which reasons do you consider it to be not notable? It seems to meet the WP:GNG. Brian Reading (talk) 02:54, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose we can consider this one resolved given it's now the most used Enterprise Linux distro lol (Stats plotted at https://rocky-stats.tiuxo.com) Tiuxo (talk) 04:09, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"community manager"

[edit]

What is this term? It is nonsense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.77.151.228 (talk) 20:43, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

At the time the article was written, I think we were calling Jordan "community manager", but that morphed into "community team lead". Tbh that part of the sentence should probably be removed, it seems unnecessary given he's already attributed in the quote. Tiuxo (talk) 03:59, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why we can't see Russion Federation among prohibited destination country under EAR or U.S. sanctions regulations???

[edit]

Rocky Linux software and technical information may be subject to the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (the “EAR”) and other U.S. and foreign laws and may not be exported, re-exported or transferred (a) to a prohibited destination country under the EAR or U.S. sanctions regulations (currently Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea Region of Ukraine, subject to change as posted by the United States government); — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.250.229.24 (talk) 13:25, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's not currently on the EAR embargoed destinations list. We templated that off https://www.redhat.com/en/about/export-control-product-matrix and https://www.centos.org/legal/ and had a lawyer review it. Tiuxo (talk) 03:54, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

End of Life in version table

[edit]

The background colors in the version table are nowhere explained. Suppose that red means EOL reached, there still needs to be a reference for that information. I tried to make some sense out of it together with the version info on the RHEL article, but still do not understand it. Can anyone from the project chime in and bring a little light into the darkness? 2A02:8108:483F:D480:7F0E:C806:4A45:F2D2 (talk) 00:32, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Green indicates the latest supported version. Yellow indicates a still-supported minor version of an older major version. Red means an older version that isn't supported at all.
As a project, we don't have the resources to maintain LTS support for all the older minor versions, so we just focus on the latest minor version of each supported major version. Triaging and backporting fixes to all the minor versions would just be too much. We might someday, but until then, people that need that sort of support need to link up with a commercial support vendor that offers that sort of service. Tiuxo (talk) 04:05, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
