The links you deleted from Rugby union in Cyprus were references not "link spam". If I don't keep them in, someone will come along and delete all the material (possibly the entire article).--MacRusgail (talk) 11:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Trouble is, Angloinfo are a notorious spamming link. Not wanted in Wikipedia. Can you find alternative sources? Setwisohi (talk) 16:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- The statements referenced by this link look completely uncontroversial to me; is there any reason to suppose they will be deleted? If not then there is no harm in removing the link for now, and dealing with deletion if and when it happens. I also agree with Setwisohi that it would be better to give better sources if possible. - I have absolutely no connection to Angloinfo (I don't even consider myself "Anglo"), let alone a particular desire to advertise them. I am hesistant to use electronic references (websites don't last long), but I'm afraid the internet is one of the few ways I can research most stuff like this, if I can't find it in print... and I don't know enough Greek let alone Turkish (I can read their alphabets, I suppose that's a start!) I also know from bitter experience that stuff with no references, even if it is well written has a tendency to disappear from wikipedia! I do have one new reference, but it's not to the existing stuff. :( --MacRusgail (talk) 02:05, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Removed the offending links, but I hope that the material shan't be removed.--MacRusgail (talk) 16:22, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your co-operation. Please please do not think that anyone is accusing you of spamming by using that link. I'm sure you used it in good faith. Unfortunately it's just one of very (very) many EL sites which do, too often, spam Wikipedia. (Which is why it is removed). Will keep an eye on this page and check that material is not removed. minor changes - for now
[edit]Hi I now live in Cyprus and I'm involved with the Limassol Crusaders and already know a few members of the national squad. I'm going to update and enlarge this article in the near future to include the current league (The Cypriot Services League), the national squad and some more information about the teams. Both Paphos Tigers and the Crusaders are now recruiting youth teams and there is a push to get rugby going in Cypriot schools, so the bit about restricted take-up by Cypriots is slightly dated. I've also removed the word English from the founders of the Crusaders, while they were formed by Expats, some of whom were English (and other British!), others in the original group were South African. The current squad is pretty much international, including a couple of Cypriots. When I do update, I'll put in full references from the club sites themselves and from the Cyprus Rugby Federation.
