It would seem that she grounded three times in the Suez Canal. The first was on her maiden voyage in October 1954, the second in February 1959 and the third in August 1962. As a child, I was a passenger on the maiden voyage and was having breakfast in the 1st Class Dining Room when she grounded. During the eventful voyage in 1968 from Sydney to Southampton (or one of them), around May 1968 while berthed at Singapore I fell 72 feet (22 metres) down the inside of one of the holds. I was a child of 9 at the time, the barriers around the wide open hold had been left lying on the ground. I remember the feeling of going down an elevator fast watching the far side of the hold wall. Luckily I landed on some very hard but soft enough "raw rubber" and only suffered a broken collar bone and some sore legs. After a short stay in a Singapore hospital we caught up with the ship in "Ceylon" - P&O settled later with my father.82.69.48.215 (talk) 18:16, 9 September 2018 (UTC) wiki renamed my account so now anon.Djp~enwiki (talk) 18:21, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
