when the hell was it confirmed that sabu will go for the world heavy weight title a one night stand. if it does happen then thanks for the spoilers bitchs—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.12.116.71 (talk) 21:02, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I took care of it, it looks like the same person who keeps trying to add it to the ONS II page. People need to learn not to add things that haven't happened yet. I'm sure people would like it if someone added spoilers for a show like 24 before they air. TJ Spyke 03:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but it has aired. I am simply adding to Wikipedia. Man Canadians get no respect.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.185.87.34 (talk) 17:37, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The general policy is to do it based on the US air date, plus I know that not all of Canada gets it on Thursday. I won't take it out now since they are about to announce it in a few minutes anyways. TJ Spyke 00:14, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, his final indy match (due to his WWE contract) was on Friday night, June 9, for FNW in Butler, PA where he defeated Sterling James Keenan.—Preceding unsigned comment added by JWLJN (talkcontribs) 04:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a recommendation. In the section that addresses Sabu's gimmick, when it mentions he very rarely speaks in character, it should also address his most visible and oft-repeated physical signature--pointing to the sky and looking upwards. Possible meanings of this signature should be discussed, such as pointing to Allah, fitting Sabu's character as an Arab, and most likely a Muslim. Edit: Actually, I will add it myself. If anyone has criticism, I am happy to hear it. Kevinbrowning 05:55, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The pointing, according to I think Brunk himelf, fits in it with his gimmick of being a "savage". The lights are "pointing" down at him from the ceilng, so he points back at them. Nowadays however it's just become his signature taunt. Romis 13:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, someone added in something about Sabu having smelly socks and underwear and also said something about him being a "dingus". Clearly someone wants to be an idiot, but I am going to delete it. It is under the Bombay, Michigan section and reads "sabu lived in a Ben Sherman designer bin with his uncle Ranock Aktar. Sabu had smelly socks so Ranock moved out because he could'nt get to sleep because of Sabu's socks and his smelly underwear hahahahahahahahahahaha. In 1945 Sabu went to School he went to ST.Andrews mental hospital academy where he recived serious therapy because he is a dingus". So, I am deleting that part. jjh295 19:05, 23 October 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.143.219.119 (talk)

Born To Be Wired

[edit]

quoting from article "It was Sabu and Terry Funk who created one of the most violent matches seen on televised wrestling in a barbed wire match on August 9th, 1997 at ECW's Born To Be Wired event."

This is false, as it was NEVER televised. It was filmed for a commercial ECW video, not for ECW Hardcore TV. Although small clips were shown on tv, it was far too violent to be fully aired. If it was aired ECW most likely would've been dropped by some markets. Other matches from the show were televised on Hardcore TV, but the full main event match was only available on the Born To Be Wired vhs tape.--Hndsmepete 06:26, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IT WAS INDEED TELEVISED

I LIVE IN NY, AND IT WAS BROADCAST ON UHF CHANNEL 31 AT 2AM ON A SATURDAY ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.193.16.220 (talk) 09:46, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong it was not televised in full, only clips were shown. I have the Hardcore TV episode on tape. BTW a UHF channel is barely tv anyway. I caught ECW on MSG every saturday night at 2AM throughout the 90's.Hndsmepete 07:24, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"the full main event match was only available on the Born To Be Wired vhs tape" Fortunately, it's also available on the out-of-print Deep Impact DVD.. as well as the acclaimed WWE-produced Blood Sport compilation. Such a classic bout that should always be available for viewing. - Parsonsburg 27 May 2007

I oppose the move because the "(wrestler)" part has to be added to the article name since there's other uses for "Sabu". "Terry Brunk" is a unique article name and is better for disambiguation purposes. --Jtalledo (talk) 12:14, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sabu and RVD arrested for drugs

[edit]

The following is an article from The Ironton Tribune (irontontribune.com)

Wrestling stars busted in Hanging Rock By Kirsten Stanley/The Ironton Tribune

HANGING ROCK — Two wrestling superstars from Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment may be tough in the ring, but they didn't have enough muscle to escape drug charges after being stopped Sunday night by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Robert Alex Szatowski, aka WWE and ECW champion Rob Van Dam, and Terry Michael Brunk, aka Sabu, also a former ECW champion, were pulled over on U.S. 52, near Patrick Street in Hanging Rock at about 10:15 p.m. The two were apparently driving from their performances at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena earlier in the evening.

According to the OSHP, Szatowski was initially stopped for speeding. When troopers approached his vehicle, they smelled marijuana and performed a search. Troopers found the wrestler in possession of 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills. Brunk was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had nine pills that were not immediately identifiable, but were known to be controlled substances, according to the OSHP. Both were cited and posted bond at the scene.

Szatowski, of Battle Creek, Mich., has had a long, successful career with both the WWE and ECW. In addition to being the current champion of both, he has been intercontinental champion six times, hardcore champion four times and has been a part of several championship tag team duos.

He is scheduled to wrestle tonight on WWE Raw and is also wrestling Tuesday night to retain his WWE and ECW titles during the "Extreme Rules Match" on the Sci-Fi channel.

Both Brunk and Szatowski are scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court. Both wrestlers won their matches last night in Huntington, W.Va. Van Dam defeated the Big Show and Sabu defeated Justin Credible.

When troopers approached his vehicle, they smelled marijuana and performed a search. Troopers found the wrestler in possession of 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills. Brunk was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had nine pills that were not immediately identifiable.

should this be posted or have to wait?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.255.68.71 (talk) 17:03, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's a real and potentially important story for Terry Brunk. The article as a whole can't be posted as it falls under copyright but a reference to the arrests with a link to the Ironton Tribune would seem okay. -EvWill 00:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His gimmick says that's he's from Bombay, India, that's kayfabe. However, as a rib, they announced him as being from Bombay, Michigan a few times in the old ECW. Through most of his career, his gimmick of being a "savage" prevented him from speaking English, but he does that now, appearently for a multi-million dollar contract you learn English pretty quickly :-P Romis 13:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The ones of you who are adamantly saying that he is from Bombay don't realize that wrestling is fake. Yes, WWE says that he is from Bombay. "Sabu" is from Bombay, but Terry Brunk is not. As for those of you who are claiming that he can't be from India because he's Arab, i have news for you. There are more Arabs in India than there are total people in the United States, even as far as Bombay. Requested move 2

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was move. Before the first move, Sabu was a redirect to Terry Brunk so the move to Sabu (wrestler) did not make sense if Sabu was to remain a redirect. As for the links to Sabu, they were probably mostly made when the article was at Terry Brunk, and the disambiguation page with direct them to the correct page. -- Kjkolb 10:54, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sabu really needs to be a disambiguation page. There are many topics that go by "Sabu", including multiple people. Even figuring out how to comment here on the naming issue was confusing, and my journey stemmed from just trying to sort out an unclear link to a person identified only as "Sabu". ENeville 16:32 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Sabu should be a disambig page - most people will think of the Indian actor Sabu Dastagir when the name Sabu is mentioned DuncanHill 15:21, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Optimally, Sabu would be the article for Sabu Dastagir, with a separate disambiguation page. It would be acceptable, though suboptimal, for Sabu to be the disambiguation page. But Sabu should certainly not be an article about the wrestler. The wrestler is infinitely more obscure than the actor. - Nunh-huh 23:02, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean "most people"? I doubt anyone outside of people from India(or fans of him) have even heard of that actor, I would say most people would think of this wrestler. This page should stay here. TJ Spyke 23:11, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I saw the name Sabu, the Indian actor was my first thought - and I have never been to India. I suspect the wrestler is only known in the US. Sabu should be the disambiguation page. -- Beardo 00:01, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The formal proposal in "Requested moves" is "*SabuSabu (wrestler) … This article was recently moved after discussion, but there are multiple other people under this one name, some of which are of more prominence than the wrestler. IF it gets moved(which I do not support), then it should be to Sabu (wrestler) since he is far more known for his ring name than his real name. Also, if it gets moved then someone will have to go through and fix the 100+ links that "Sabu" has. I'm sick of people moving articles and then not bothering to change the links as well. "Sabu" is pretty much a mish-mash of general middle-eastern and asian stereotypes, an Indian wrestler who uses Arabian moves while praying like a muslim on entering the ring (Although he seems to have eased up on this recently) and couldn't speak English until earlier this year despite having lived in the US for at leat a decade. I don't think the gimmick is meant to be accurate to any nation or race. So let's all lighten up. Daigo 16:21, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fools, I'm Indian, myself, and Sabu is in fact part Indian. Like me, he was born here, and that is how he can speak English. World Champion recognize

[edit]

I don't know, but if you read the Mr. Kennedy interview about the MitB http://www.wwe.com/shows/wrestlemania/exclusives/42607961, they talks about Kennedy beating 7 world champions. If you see the World Champions criteria, Sabu it's just a one time World Champion, but a NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Isn't that a fact for any article in Wikipedia? Xbox6 02:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, he's held 3 World Titles: ECW, NWA and XPW. However, WWE.com only covers those who are either former WWF/WWE and/or WCW World Champs. But technically, you're absolutely right. Hell, I'm sure there's a couple more former World Champs that Kennedy has beat, and WWE.com simply hasn't found them noteworthy enough. - Parsonsburg 27 May 2007

Ornamenting

[edit]

Since Sabu (not Terry Brunk the person, but Sabu the persona) is an Arabian, I tought it might add some extra value to discuss the presentation of his gimmick to audiences in the article. Like the thing he wears in the head when entering (don't know the name, if anyone does, PLEASE tell me) and, AFAIK, the belt also. Just a tought, but please, at least tell me the name of such ornaments if anyone happens to know it.Vicius 03:55, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

General Info

[edit]
To "Dark-hooded Smoker": Sabu is from Detroit you halfwit retard. Just like the Highlanders and Roddy Piper are billed from Scotland, but they're really from the states.
Funny fact, Sabus match at Summerslam 2005/6 (i forget which one) against the Big Show was funny, when Sabu went to DDT the Big Show onto that table set-up he slipped on the table, took a second to fix it while the Big Show stood there, which allowed the Big Show to put him through the table, thusly reversing the DDT attempt. 70.49.206.25 01:50, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Opening paragraph

[edit]

I think the opening paragraph should be altered a little bit. It says that Sabu developed his high-risk hardcore wrestling technique while in ECW. Sabu was doing high risk stuff before he was in ECW. I think a more appropriate wording would be that Sabu refined his high-risk hardcore wrestling technique while in ECW. I'm gonna go ahead and make the edit, and if anyone disagrees they can change it back and we can discuss it here.Mwutz 21:01, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course Sabu is going to TNA, although no sources to confirm it, where else is he going to go? Sabu was awesome in TNA, just like the old days of ECW. I think all the ECW originals should go to TNA, cos their talent is being wasted in WWE.80.229.169.189 18:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sabu Has a 90 day no compete cause. i think this shold be added to the page untill no longer valid. (90 days as of his relese date (16/5/07)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.155.42.17 (talk) 08:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a big-time mark for All Japan Pro Wrestling, I'd love to see 'ol Sabu go there and raise some hell... maybe even capture the Triple Crown. It probably won't happen, but one can always dream. - Parsonsburg 27 May 2007

Do we know what date it will be for the 90 day clause? --68.209.227.3 04:32, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Religion

[edit]

Does anybody know what religion Sabu is? Islam?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mirali93 (talkcontribs) 07:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think his religion is Islam. But We need to find any sources that says that either he is muslim or not. Daniel 5127 02:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Benoit & The Crippler Moniker

[edit]

That bit about Chris Benoit and the "Crippler" moniker should be moved to the Chris Benoit article as it pertains more to Chris Benoit than anything else. It doesn't belong in the personal life part of the article. Mr. C.C. 06:06, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A thing to note, I do not even believe this to be where he got his moniker as the crippler. Refrence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCmduGb60EE&feature=related As you can hear in the opening of the match, they clearly use the "crippler" moniker here in the match stated as giving him the that very moniker. 81.167.171.128 (talk) 02:56, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Video Games

[edit]

In the article about the TNA Video Game it says that Sabu will be a legend on that game, also its confirmed that he will be a legend on WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 ECW Invasion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.30.248.101 (talk) 19:09, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Luggage

[edit]

Doesn't his luggage always gets stolen when he was working with WWE? Then he would always end up wearing Daivari's pants in his matches. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.138.139.65 (talk) 04:57, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TNA

HWF

[edit]

A lot of the stuff seems to mention Sabu working in HWF. I didn't watch at this time, but I believe all of that stuff is ECW, either Extreme Championship or possibly Eastern Championship. I didn't want to change it in case I'm ignorant to the existance of an HWF, just wanted to point it out in case it's incorrect. --Jimmy Wang Yu: Version 2 (talk) 22:40, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't Rob Van Dam's article being changed to Robert Szatkowski then? Most people (Wrestling fans included) don't even know Sabu's real name and even other wrestlers refer to him by his ring name in shoots and the like, so why change this when the vast majority of celebrity articles on Wikipedia use stage names, pen names etc? Is Hulk Hogan's page under Terry Bollea? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.239.159.6 (talk) 09:39, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cocoa Samoa Redirect

[edit]

The current redirect of Cocoa Samoa to Terry Brunk is incorrect. Cocoa/Coco Samoa was the wrestling name of John Reiher who worked the Memphis territory briefly as "Sabu the Wildman." It's two completely different people. http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/profiles/c/coco-samoa.html and a match of his can be viewed here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29TbKRfIn5M DX927 (talk) 07:57, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Retired?

[edit]

It says in the infobox that he is retired. Although it makes no mention in the article that he is retired or has been contemplating it. There is not even a citation beside the year of his retirement in the infobox. I purpose that it should cited for confirmation or else removed. Mr. C.C. (talk) 01:08, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bogosity check

[edit]

From the article:

He began his wrestling career in 1985 in the Sheik's promotion, Big Time Wrestling,...

Big Time Wrestling went out of business in 1980. Georgia Championship Wrestling took over Michigan and Ohio and ran shows there regularly until Jim Crockett took them over. It could have been another promotion affiliated with Ed Farhat, though I doubt it was of the same magnitude.RadioKAOS (talk) 01:15, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are probably multiple independent promotions run under the BTW moniker. However, locally Farhat ran and may very well still be in charge of an organization that used to air its matches late night weekends on local TV as AWWL (All-World Wrestling League) BIG TIME WRESTLING.ADg2k14 (talk) 08:16, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clear a few things up: yes, "Big Time Wrestling" was a common brand name and television program title for wrestling programs for many years. When I say "Ed Farhat", I'm referring to Ed Farhat aka "The Sheik", who died at the beginning of 2003, which means that he most certainly is not still promoting wrestling events. Ed Farhat, Jr. was an announcer and promoter for his father, so perhaps that's what you're referring to. The Big Time Wrestling I was talking about was Johnny Doyle's old Detroit-based promotion, which was one of the hottest territories in the entire United States from about the end of the 1960s to the latter part of the middle 1970s. Though I was born in the Great Lakes region, I didn't start watching wrestling until late 1979, when we had already moved to Alaska, cable television was a brand-new thing and Georgia Championship Wrestling was the ONLY thing on cable worth watching (curiously, my first memory of GCW was of Bobby Heenan managing Killer Karl Kox, the latter of whom was a big star in Detroit some years before). Resultantly, I have no firsthand knowledge of the fate of Farhat's promotion, just what I've read from numerous accounts (both wrestling-centric and not) of the auto industry being in dire straights in 1979 and 1980 and the ripple effect it had on the economy in Michigan. The same thing happened with multiple wrestling promotions in the oil-patch states of the southern U.S. during 1985–89 when oil prices collapsed. Here in Alaska, another place heavily reliant upon the oil economy, the majority of our financial institutions (e.g. banks and S&Ls, though not necessarily limited to that) went out of business due to being too heavily invested in real estate. As I watched GCW on-and-off during the early 1980s, they did bumpers wherein Freddie Miller would announce upcoming shows, with a great many of them in Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia rather than Georgia. Jim Barnett and Verne Gagne took advantage of their superior television exposure and expanded their respective territories into dead or dying "rival" territories in the early 1980s, which could very well have motivated Vince McMahon's expansion a few years later. As for AWWL, I'm sure I've watched episodes on YouTube before and had the impression it was George Cannon's promotion, and could very well have been the same as the Windsor-based television program referred to in his article. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 03:12, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I try to avoid YouTube when I'm connected through my phone, as it eats up my data limit. However, I was on another computer the other day and looked up AWWL again just to be sure. I guess the Cannon program/promotion I refer to above was something else. The lineage of AWWL to The Sheik is made obvious not only by the usage of the Big Time Wrestling title, but the endless recycling of old clips of his matches and the constant presence of Sabu in other segments. However, we should avoid making a big deal out of this promotion just because it's "the latest fashion". There's an obvious world of difference between selling out Cobo Arena in Detroit every two weeks for years and years and years, and selling out a high school or community center gym in Monroe every now and then.
