[edit]The article is misleading:
The Blackgang Chine amusement park, established in 1843 by Victorian entrepreneur Alexander Dabell, on the Isle of Wight, UK can be considered the oldest existing theme park in the world. Additionally, various sources report the existence of between 1,500 and 20,00 amusement parks in the United States by 1919. (From the wiki on theme parks, which includes citations)
It's not even close to being one of the world's first theme parks...
Also, the article claims that Santa's Workshop has the world's first petting zoo. This is also incorrect as the first petting zoo opened at the London Zoo in 1938, 11 years before the opening of Santa's Workshop. (petting zoo) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.173.11.234 (talk • contribs)
- First, it doesn't claim that it is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, it claims that it is one of the oldest theme parks in the United States. There's a difference between theme parks and amusement parks, even if Wikipedia currently redirects the former to the latter.
- Incidentally, the Wikipedia article says of Blackgang Chine only that it is "Allegedly the oldest theme park in the UK" (emphasis added). -- Mwanner | Talk 11:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
