Notability?

[edit]

From an initial investigation, this looks like just another more-or-less anonymous movie awards thingy and, at 15 years of age, pretty new at that. Other than from the Hollywood PR mill, is there substantial coverage from multiple, independent, reliable sources to evidence notability? --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 14:00, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It might not have the same spotlight as the Academy Awards, Emmys, or even the Golden Globes, but there are over 15.5 million hits on Google for "Satellite Awards" alone. I think the reason this article is so small is because the IPA keeps re-inventing its categories, making some "new" and not stalwarts like their forebearers. The IPA also bucks the system sometimes and goes against the grain of other awardists. I've spent the better part of this past week working on templates and categories for these awards so they will be more visible and noteworthy. This "stub" article has many layers for those who go Wiki-hunting. — Wyliepedia 13:47, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sheer number of ghits is no argument in normal circumstances, and especially not in the realm of movie publicity. I realize that there are multiple subsidiary articles to this one, but I am not interested in chipping away here and there--should the entire hierarchy stand or fall? Are this article and its children proper encyclopedia subjects, or is this so much marketing fluff, both for the presenters and the recipients? The Oscars, Emmys, and Golden Globes might be worthless as guarantors of what ought notable, but they surely both reflect and drive what is considered notable, and are worth attention on that basis. Likewise the "Satellite Awards"? I don't see it--can you provide cites to convince me otherwise? And I'm not talking about a box score from Hollywood Reporter or a trivial side mention in a genuinely RS, I'm talking about substantial cites that indicate that the Satellite Awards matter and belong in an encyclopedia.--Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 03:07, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that the Satellite Awards have been covered by several sources including Screen Daily, Variety, Playbill, Reuters, and The Hollywood Reporter. If these sources think it is worth reporting on nominees and winners, I think there is a place on Wikipedia, especially to consolidate all these titles. What's more interesting to me is that this article has survived for six years and is just now being questioned for notability. If I had the mind or the time to expand this article to be like those awards mentioned above, I would. I don't, but, if that means that this article fails "notability," then I have a list of several hundred others at WP:PRIZE to mention. — Wyliepedia 05:53, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
