Badly designed article

[edit]

It doesn't even say if Savage Sam is a dog or what! I still don't know!--Santahul 14:21, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was just about to look on Wikipedia to search for an answer myself after reading this comment. But that would have been redundant. I won't edit the article because I don't feel it would be proper for me to, but I can tell you that yes, Savage Sam is a dog and apparently from what I'm reading at IMDB, the son of Old Yeller.68.196.48.186 (talk) 19:14, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Savage Sam cannot possibly be Old Yeller's son.

[edit]

I haven't read the book Savage Sam, but I have read Old Yeller and he (Yeller) is described a stocky, lop-eared 'yeller' dog. I don't understand how he is expected to produce a hound dog pup. Additionally, the dog who played Old Yeller in the 1957 film (his name was Spike) was a big, lop-eared, yellow Lab/Mastiff mix and the acting dog who played Miss Priss (Lisbeth's dog) was a short, wiry black-and-white mongrel. What's more than that, Old Yeller's son is featured in the movie, Old Yeller, as the pup given to Arliss and Travis as a gift from Lisbeth. The pup is yellow, and in the end credits, he is still yellow (as he well should be). So, really, crediting Savage Sam with being Old Yeller's son (especially when the idea isn't even touched on in either movie) is quite inaccurate. Just sayin'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mistvieh (talkcontribs) 09:40, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's the way it was in both novels, though. I don't recall a description of Savage Sam in the book, but I know his mother was a blue-tick hound (and I'm unfamiliar with what all that entails). I know he wasn't supposed to look much like Old Yeller, but he was like him in some of his personality traits.76.6.217.8 (talk) 17:43, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have a feeling the movie writers just didn't take notice of the pup's appearance in the first film, or otherwise they'd have used a different breed...it's not uncommon for sequels to flub things like that, really. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.201.144.231 (talk) 23:22, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
