Move page

[edit]

Why not call this page Scott Brown (Scottish footballer) and the other Scott Brown page, Scott Brown (footballer born May 1985), Scott Brown (English footballer), it makes a lot more sense than the names just now. AndTheCrowdGoesWild 00:54, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. There was some support for a move to Scott Brown (footballer), but not enough for me to implement it. No prejudice against a new request with that target. Favonian (talk) 22:09, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Brown (Scottish footballer)Scott Brown (footballer born June 1985) – In order to create consistency with the other Scott Brown articles, Scott Brown (footballer born April 1985) and Scott Brown (footballer born May 1985). Standard practice among footballer articles is for year/month of birth to be used as a primary disambiguator, rather than nationality. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:54, 5 February 2012 (UTC) Comment. Isn't this Scott Brown a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC footballer? He should be moved to Scott Brown (footballer) per WP:COMMONNAME then, shouldn't he? Barocci (talk) 17:14, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. There is nothing that says all footballers are equally notable and should be named uniformly. Scott Brown (Scottish footballer) is the primary topic, significantly more so than the other two Scott Brown's. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 17:20, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems fair to me. This Scott Brown has been the more significant of the three for several years so I'm surprised this hasn't been raised until now. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:26, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree completely. How is anyone to know which player was born in April 1985 and which in May 1985. Even writing this now I can't remember which month this Scott Brown was born in, I really can't and I have spent alot of time contributing to this page. It will make wikilinking to either player longer and is unnecessary. Adam4267 (talk) 18:47, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good job consensus is moving towards the article being retitled to "Scott Brown (footballer)", then? Mattythewhite (talk) 18:56, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'd prefer that to the D.O.B but I don't see the need for the move. There is only one Scottish footballer named Scott Brown and the first sentence in the lead is Scott Brown (born 25 June 1985) is a Scottish footballer. I think it is much more clear to keep it at Scottish footballer rather than move. Adam4267 (talk) 19:06, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose either suggested move. This Scott Brown is the only noted Scottish footballer of that name, therefore it is logical to have that as his disambiguation term rather than the month and year of his birth, which is far less known. I don't think he should have priority over the two English footballers by being at Scott Brown (footballer). I think that should be a disambiguation page, as there are 3+ individuals who could have that title. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 19:40, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose "(footballer born June 1985)". Think about the reader here: are they more likely to know which month of 1985 he was born in, or what his nationality is? To me, Scottish is much clearer. Haven't looked at the other footballers of this name, though, so "(footballer)" would be better if he really is the primary topic. Jenks24 (talk) 04:16, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Current title is by far the best he is the only notable Scottish footballer. Even if he is the primary topic then (footballer) is better but i don't see the need for the move at this time.Edinburgh Wanderer 00:01, 7 February 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edinburgh Wanderer Mobile (talkcontribs) [reply]

In the Style of play section, the direct quote marked in blue quotation marks has the normal sized quotation mark at one end with no quotation mark anywhere in that part of the section. Therefore, it should either be removed or have the beginning quotation mark inserted, the former statement seems more likely. 86.169.53.193 (talk) 09:29, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the unnecessary small quotation mark. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 10:28, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism protection?

[edit]

Could protecting be considered for this, it only takes a minute of looking at the revisions to see the nonsense being added and reverted on a daily basis. It doesn't look like he's retiring any time soon, so his article will continue to attract this kind of attention. Should I suggest it on WP:FOOTY? Crowsus (talk) 09:18, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Crowsus: - Were you talking about this "Lego Muncher" vandalism which I have noticed occasionally? - Iggy (Swan) 22:00, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Iggy the Swan: Yup, just the standard lazy 'banter' remarks that constantly get added to articles of players who provoke a bit of attention. For Celtic it's Brown and Leigh Griffiths at present. As you'll know, every club has a couple of 'target' players and all their rivals have a set of boring insults to throw at them. It (the vandalism) has calmed down slightly over the summer but will probably return as the season gets underway. Crowsus (talk) 22:46, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Crowsus: - haven't noticed any of the same vandalism from Brown that has also been edited on Leigh Griffiths, seems to be other types. Iggy (Swan) 09:35, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, certainly its not the same 'theme', just that he is the other current player (out of the Celtic pages I watch, which is only about 8 of them to be fair) that gets constantly vandalised. But Lego munching is exclusively reserved to Brown. Crowsus (talk) 10:14, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I came here to suggest just this, given I just made it autoconfirmed for a month after this week's burst ... shall I give it six months? - David Gerard (talk) 14:07, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, up to you really, it would likely have a spike of 'interest' this week with an Old Firm cup final coming up but then would probably drop off a bit again. Crowsus (talk) 14:43, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ehh I'll leave it for now then :-) nah, I'll make it 3 months, can revisit if trouble starts again then - David Gerard (talk) 15:09, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that should do for now but if we have vandalism of this type again which has been going on longer than I'd been on here under my username, the protection log is now long and should be protected indefinitely or at least a year. Change “8 successive championships” to “9 successive championships”

Done The source doesn't explicitly mention him, but that the club won 9 successive championships and that he was captain is verifiable so this isn't OR by any standard, and anyway this is a valid compromise and a better wording to keep the lead concise. Change Celtic football clubs to Celtic Football Club's. Charlie Techniques338 (talk) 21:07, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While you're correct grammatically, the sentence didn't belong in the article at all and has been removed since no source was provided. See WP:V and WP:RS. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 22:32, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection needed?

[edit]

This page has been the target of vandalism shortly after the previous protection expired. I would think this article has been targeted long enough for this to have long-term protection against vandalism. Per page history, it has had the boring lego muncher vandalism for years and this year another type of vandalism has surfaced, claiming his name has been changed. Thoughts on this? Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 14:31, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection is on it's way. It's no good for a good article like this one to be constantly vandalised on a month to month basis. We'll see what happens when someone sees my protection request. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:47, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the paragraph: “ During Brown's time at Celtic, the club has won ten Scottish championships, five Scottish Cups, and six Scottish League Cups.” It should be six Scottish Cups, not five. Also, “has” can be removed as it is now past tense, as Brown has left the club. 2A02:C7F:D34:9800:E531:BB8F:A9D6:A97B (talk) 20:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
