unbalanced article

[edit]

The Many inputs create inconsistencies section is overly extensive relative to the rest of the subject matter (or more accurately, there is a paucity of material defining what the value and content of sequence databases are). Better article would describe more of the general contents and the methodologies used in populating and managing sequence databases, their value and use in a wide range of biology research, and integration of sequence databases with other biological databases. Standards used, where the data is drawn from: high thruput experiments, sequencing centers, individual research projects, and the 'deposit to publish' agreement among journals that has help spur database submissions. Merge suggestion

[edit]

Protein structure database and Sequence database are rather close and interleaved concepts. Both articles are stubbish, unreferenced and vague. I would suggest to merge the narratives and split the list of databases into a separate page. Last Lost (talk) 19:14, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would disagree. Although the articles are not that great they are seperate enough and notable enough to warrant articles. Also though perhaps list articles might be more appropriate. Alexbateman (talk) 16:20, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment, they're both very stubby and could conceivably be merged into some sort of a "biological databases" article. But at some point they should both get their own article and be fleshed out a little bit. I'm going to try to add a bit to structure based emphasizing some of the differences between the two (which isn't to say they shouldn't end up in a "biological sequence database" article at the moment). A "biological sequence databases" article, could also include "DNA sequence databases", and maybe a different sort of biologist (like a yeast person) might be able to say something about a database of mutants for a given species. Class work

Hello to any moderators for this Wikipedia article I(Unchainedskink9) and djfinnie are editing this page for a class[1] We are a bit new to posting to a talk.
