ŞəmkirShamkir (city) – Move to "Shamkir (city)" per WP:UE/WP:COMMONNAME/WP:ENGLISH. Proof of anglicized name being the common name:

Results from Google News: Shamkir: 2,370 Şəmkir: 1

Results from Google Scholar: Shamkir: 510 Şəmkir: 102

Individual reliable sources referring to the city as Shamkir: Al Jazeera 1, Al Jazeera 2, Voice of America, Reuters, EurasiaNet, FinancialTimes, RFE/RL

This is the same name but an anglicized version. Unlike other small villages, this is a fairly large town, which has made a lot of appearances in English-language media, in most of which, "Shamkir" has been used much more, establishing its WP:COMMONNAME. I'd also like to ask the closing admin to give more attention to the arguments being made rather than the vote counts, as there are people who go over each RM and repeat unrelated policies as an "Oppose" argument. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 16:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose en.wp Azerbaijan articles use Azerbaijan script. same as this English book or this English book. Most sources don't have full fonts, unlike en.wp. So it's a choice we have made because we don't want to treat Azerbaijan differently from every other Latin-alphabet nation on en.wp - check out en.wp's Malta articles for example. Azerbaijan gets equal treatment with every other latin-alphabet country. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:30, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We're not changing the name solely because it uses non-anglicized letters. The anglicized name is the common name as shown by a wide range of WP:RS and WP:GOOGLETEST provided above and Wikipedia policies and guidelines such as WP:UE, WP:ENGLISH and WP:COMMONNAME prefer an anglicized common name rather than an non-anglicized barely mentioned name. Nitpicking two books using a non-anglicized name as opposed to 510 scholarly books/articles and almost all WP:RS using "Shamkir" won't help your case either. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 18:35, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BADGER. Please, you don't have to have always reply and always have last word with every single voice against your view. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:35, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Replying to people to clarify their misunderstanding of my RM intent isn't badgering (it would be if I was trying to make you change your vote) and it's quite ironic for you to mention it as you were doing the exact same thing few days ago here and here. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 18:39, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
