Hammersley Park School

[edit]

@GorgeCustersSabre: "all this information" I added on the school was just its opening date, name change, and reason for close. What's the problem with it? ghouston (talk) 12:02, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article is not about the schools in the suburb, let alone one school. George Custer's Sabre (talk) 12:03, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any problem with listing all the schools in the suburb. There have only been a few. There suburb is mostly just houses anyway. ghouston (talk) 12:05, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GorgeCustersSabre: There are plenty of other Christchurch suburbs that have the same problem, and you may like to deal with them. Aidanfield mentions a few schools. Aranui has a whole education section. Avonhead has an enormous schools section. Beckenham, New Zealand has a section for a single primary school. I only looked at the first few, alphabetically. ghouston (talk) 00:10, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's normal for a suburb article to deal with the schools located there. I have therefore reinstated the info. Schwede66 00:31, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But GorgeCustersSabre, what is your logic? That an article about a suburb can't digress into discussing things located inside the suburb? A lot of articles will need severe cutting. ghouston (talk) 03:05, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GorgeCustersSabre, you are out of step. I have sought input from WPNZ. Make sure you don’t violate 3RR. Schwede66 03:19, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It is common for schools to be in suburb articles. In general advice for school articles, if they can't be notable on their own, then they should be added to the school district for USA articles or for the local suburb article as per Project Schools. I'm responding to a request for input placed at WP:NZWNB#Input wanted. I routinely add school information to articles on suburbs. I just haven't got to Christchurch yet. I don't usually bother with closed schools. but if there's sourced information already in an article, I'll try to integrate it with the material I add. I can't see why anyone would remove the short paragraph on Quinns Road/Hammersley Park School.-gadfium 04:47, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I only bothered because I attended the school, it's not particularly notable. But the Christchurch libraries document helpfully confirmed that it existed, it wasn't just my imagination. Facts are facts. It's not like I wrote a 5000 word marketing spiel. ghouston (talk) 07:53, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I see that I also created this article, a while ago. I probably didn't think Shirley itself was particularly notable, but it been expanded in the meantime with all kinds of things I never knew. I never heard it referred to as "Windsor", for example. ghouston (talk) 07:57, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry; suburbs are inherently notable. Schwede66 21:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
