Major Cleanup

[edit]

I just went through and did a major cleanup of the article. As much as possible, I tried to keep the previous information while copyediting, but in some cases I couldn't. Several sections appeared to be machine translations, like the Festival section, and I simply couldn't begin to guess what the words actually meant. In addition, I removed a number of POV phrases (ones praising the city). I changed some of the formatting to match WP:MOS. I took out a bunch of details we don't include in Wikipedia articles--for example, in the Geography section, we do not give a road by road account of the layout of the city--a brief description of large neighborhoods would be okay, but I couldn't separate out relevant details from tiny ones.

At this point, the real thing this article needs, rather than more information, is references. Almost none of the article is referenced outside of the climate and 1 sentence in the lead. Technically, all of this information can be removed as since it is not verified, but I'll leave it for now to give you time to find references. Please post any comments and/or questions here. The machine translation came from my article at Wikivoyage. This article was completely written by me. At least, this is the main reference. There is not much information on this town, some additional references are given in the article mentioned. If you need help please write on my discussion page. --RolandUnger (talk) 06:11, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If not much has been written about the town, then, per WP:V, the article should be either entirely deleted or at least cut down to only the things we can verify. There are no exceptions to WP:V--Wikipedia is not a place that "first" publishes information--all we do is summarize what reliable sources have already said about something. Unfortunately, by definition, Wikivoyage is not a reliable source, because it is entirely self-published (Wikipedia itself is not even a valid reference). We're going to have to get reliable sources for this, or start culling out all of the "challengable" statements.
I as the author of the original text made some corrections, but I am not a native speaker. I saw all by my own eyes and made the photographs given, so I am the source. The original text was also CC-by-sa. --RolandUnger (talk) 06:48, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As for the copyright, I'm not questioning the copying here, since as you correctly point out Wikivoyage is CC-by-sa. Unfortunately, that doesn't help with reliable sourcing. "Seeing something for your own eyes" is never a valid Wikipedia source. Please read WP:RS. We need magazine articles, reliable books, newspaper accounts, reliable academic press, etc. This is a fundamental part of how wikipedia verifies what is included. [edit]

The gallery is too large; Wikipedia is, per WP:NOT, not an image repository. To be honest, I think we could cut all of those pictures and just live with the ones in the rest of the article; however, I'm willing to compromise and allow a few. Could the uploader please cut those down to the most important 3 or 4 pictures? Thanks. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:21, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I love the gallery as it is now. Level C (talk) 15:07, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
