Request: information about the thickness (actually, the relative thinness!) of the transition region would be appropriate, e.g., 100 km cited at solar.physics.montana.edu/ypop/Spotlight/SunInfo/Transregion.html‎ --- I didn't cite this because I'd like a better reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.38.185.102 (talk) 16:16, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From the article:

"Below, most of the helium is not fully ionized, so that it radiates energy very effectively; above, it is not fully ionized. This has a profound effect on the equilibrium temperature (see below)."

It says the helium is not fully ionized both above and below. I removed one of the 'not' based on what I found on the Web regarding helium ionization in the various layers (http://www.columbia.edu/~ah297/unesa/sun/sun-chapter1.html). However, I'm no expert, and I may have interpreted it wrong. Somebody with more knowledge, please review this and correct it if it is wrong.

Ah, nevermind, I found the needed clarification just a few paragraphs down in the article.
