False pipefish → Ghost pipefish – The family Solenostomidae is better known as the "ghost pipefish(es)," which is even reflected in the text of the article, and should be renamed accordingly. Mr Fink (talk) 23:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Move to Solenostomus. While "ghost pipefish" is far more commonly used (by raw Google hit count) than "false pipefish", it is not clear that these vernacular names are more commonly used than the scientific names to refer to the genus Solenostomus or the family Solenostomidae, nor is it clear that the primary referent of "ghost pipefish" is the genus/family. "Ghost pipefish" the official FAO vernacular name[1] for Solenostomus cyanopterus. Google Books reports 2,670 results for Solenostomus, 1,040 results for "ghost pipefish" and 1600 results for "Solenostomidae" These figures which should be taken with a grain of salt, but they don't seem to support "ghost pipefish" being the WP:COMMONNAME for the genus or species. - Changing the request shouldn't be necessary. People closing Requested Moves are supposed to look at the comments on the RM. If consensus develops for a different title than current title or the one proposed, the article should be moved to the consensus. Plantdrew (talk) 03:16, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
